What Does the Bible Say About Guns and Self Defense?
Sample Interview Questions for Larry and Erich Pratt of Gun Owners of America (GOA)

Today's guest is going to talk about a very controversial topic that is not only hotly debated in secular political circles, but also within the church. I'm not talking about abortion or homosexuality that the Bible is clear on and that Christians rightfully oppose.

No, today's topic is one that even has many Christians divided. It is the issue of gun ownership, self defense and the right to bear arms.

Should Americans have the right to bear arms? Should Christians own guns? If the Bible says, "Thou shalt not kill, can Christians ever justify ever killing anyone?

Today's guest, Larry Pratt, is a dedicated Christian, but he is also president and founder of the 27-year old organization Gun Owners of America. Mr. Pratt is going to answer some of these tough questions and educate us, including myself, on just what the Bible tells us about this sensitive subject. Welcome to the program Larry.

1) Let me open by asking you how or why would a good Christian like you ever get involved in a gun organization?

2) But doesn't the Bible talk about turning the other cheek?

3) What did you find out about self defense when you looked through both the Old and New Testament?

4) But isn't it the job of government to protect the people?

5) Is there any evidence of the Biblical position you are talking about in our legal traditions?

6) Tell us a little more about your personal faith in Christ and your organization. And, if it is not asking too much, can you tell us if your co-workers Christians?

7) Let's bring this discussion up to date and examine some of the bills Congress has before them. What is your position on allowing pilots to be armed in their cockpits?

8) Are there any other bills dealing with self defense?

9) How far should we carry the right of self defense--what about people with criminal backgrounds--should they also be allowed to have guns?

10) Tell us what you might see are problems with the registration of firearms?

11) How could our listeners either get involved with your organization or learn more about the issues we discussed today?

12) Is there anything we missed that you would like to address before we close?
