I. The Red Chinese "When China awakens, the world will tremble." - Napoleon Bonaparte "[As for the United States] for a relatively long time it will be absolutely necessary that we quietly nurse our sense of vengeance...We must conceal our abilities and bide our time." -- Lt. General Mi Zhenyu, Vice Commander, Academy of Military Sciences, Beijing
INTRODUCTION
After centuries of floundering in disorganization, conflicts, and chaos, China is now emerging as a world power which will be second only to (and may quickly surpass) the United States. As the most populous country in the world, China will soon be the largest economy on the planet and within 10 years (or less, at current expansion rates), will have the most powerful military machine in Asia (if not the world).
The story of China's modern day rise to power can be mirrored by the concurrent decline of America and much of the West. It is a story of massive greed on the part of America politicians and businessmen who have been willing to build this Communist giant into an economic and military superpower at the expense of American national security - for the sake of tens of billions of profits.
It is a story of widespread corruption and political influence buying as Chinese Communist officials have bribed Clinton Administration and Congressional officials for massive trade concessions and technology transfers. It is a story of treason at the highest levels of the U.S. government as Clinton officials have transferred (for profit) America's most guarded military technology and weapons systems to a Communist power which by its own pronouncements is dedicated to global hegemony and the destruction of the United States. It is a story of espionage and intrigue as tens of thousands of Chinese Communist spies are given free access to America each year, as Chinese weapons are smuggled into the U.S. to terrorists and American street gangs, and as the U.S. government allows the Chinese Red Army to establish military bases in America and in Panama - at both ends of the strategic canal.
It is a story which foreshadows a coming global conflict of historic proportions as Red China, Russia, and the Islamic powers form a new economic/military alliance (not unlike the Japan/Germany Axis of World War II) enveloping almost half of the world's population.
It is a story of ruthless human rights abuses as 8 to 10 million Chinese are used in slave labor camps and factories (the loagai) to produce goods for affluent American consumers; as tens of thousands of pro-democracy dissidents are jailed, tortured, and/or executed each year; as millions of Chinese women are forced to have abortions each year; as tens (or hundreds) of thousands of babies, children (especially baby girls) are slain each year as part of China's population control program; as thousands of body organs are harvested (some from live victims) each year and sold to recipients in the West; and as all forms of dissent and basic freedoms are ruthlessly suppressed.
And lastly, it is the story of the moral and spiritual bankruptcy of America and its political and business leaders (who, like any street whore, will do anything for money) and a complacent, affluent, materialism-corrupted American public who can no longer even tell the difference between good and evil - let alone oppose that evil.
Because of the pro-Chinese propaganda emanating from our mainline media, from the Clinton Administration, from the Establishment, from the pro-China corporate lobby, and from the Red Chinese government, one very important point is being missed by most Americans. China hates America's and Americans' guts. They consider us not just an enemy, but their number one enemy. They are arming and building up the People's Liberation Army with one primary goal in mind - fighting and defeating the USA in five to 15 years.
China's leaders are hard-core Marxist/Leninist/Stalinists who still believe that the number one obstacle to be removed between them and Communist world domination is America. They consider Americans to be greedy, decadent, capitalistic pigs, but "officially" they will tell us everything we want to hear - that they love us, that they want to be our partners and emulate us in every way - in order to manipulate us into transferring to them massive amounts of U.S. aid, trade, high technology, military know-how, etc.
Probably the single most important point in this report is that the Red Chinese leadership despises America and ultimately, when they are (with America's help) strong enough, plan to destroy us (with a little help from their Russian and Islamic friends).
America is presently hell-bent on building the evil Chinese Communist empire into a world superpower, which within five to 15 years, in alliance with the Communists in Russia and the rising world of Islam (all of whom passionately hate America) will rise up to threaten our very existence. Greedy American businessmen, politicians and Establishment leaders similarly aided, traded with and built up Nazi Germany and Japan during the 1930s while the governments and peoples of Europe, America and Asia looked the other way. The greatest war in world history followed, with the loss of 55 million lives. The present U.S. (and Western) economic/military build-up of Communist China is 10 times larger and is setting the stage for an even greater war than World War II.
This issue of MIA will analyze the emerging Communist superpower; its massive U.S. government-promoted trade with America; our transfer of America's most sophisticated high technology (civilian and military) to Red China; how the U.S. Establishment enormously profits from this trade; and how the Chinese government (and its ubiquitous People's Liberation Army) has bribed traitors in the Clinton Administration for huge trade and military concessions.
This report will explore the huge Chinese Communist military build-up; how the U.S. is arming Red China; the rapidly emerging Chinese-Russian-Islam alliance (or Axis); the Clinton-approved (and promoted) Chinese naval base in Long Beach, California; the widespread Chinese espionage in America; the Chinese army (PLA) smuggling of weapons (fully automatic) to California street gangs; and China's threat to America as a rapidly growing (i.e., the world's third largest) nuclear power.
And this report will explore the barbaric human rights violations and atrocities which the Communist Chinese dictatorship is perpetuating (with tacit approval from U.S. political and business leaders) on the peoples of Tibet and China. This report, and the hundreds of sources from which this writer pulled information and data, should demonstrate (Bill Clinton's denials notwithstanding) that hardcore Marxist Leninist-Stalinist Communism is still alive in the world, it is still expanding, and it is still targeting the world for conquest and America for destruction. We proceed on our present course vis-a-vis Communist China at our own peril and at the eventual risk of national destruction.
A. THE U.S. BUILD-UP OF THE EMERGING CHINESE SUPERPOWER
"Treason doth never prosper, what's the reason? For if it prosper, none dare call it treason." - Sir John Harrington, 1612 Seldom (if ever) in history has a large, backward Third World nation seen the meteoric rise in economic power which Red China has seen since 1972, when Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger opened the door to China. But then, never in history has one superpower and its elite social, political, and business leaders worked so hard to transfer wealth by the hundreds of billions of dollars (actually by the trillions if all Western aid and trade over the past 25 years are considered) to another nation. So great has been this transfer of wealth, technology, manufacturing, and industrial knowhow, that America has helped to create an economic/military superpower which will threaten the world balance of power and America itself in the next decade. Through greed, treachery, and high treason, American political leaders (from Nixon, Kissinger, Haig, Ford and Carter to Bush, Winston Lord, Rockefeller, Gingrich and Clinton) have helped to create a Communist Frankenstein monster which will turn on its benefactors and attempt to devour them early in the next century. Lenin said greedy businessmen would sell the Communists the rope with which the latter would eventually hang the former. Clinton and his Establishment comrades are selling the Chinese Communists the rope on credit, or in most instances, giving it to them. Websters Dictionary defines a "whore" as a woman who will do anything for money; deliver any sexual favors. It describes "treason" as violation by a person of his allegiance to his country; giving aid and comfort to a country's enemies; disloyalty or treachery to one's country. Today, America's politicians from Clinton to Gingrich, its Establishment leaders from Rockefeller to Kissinger to Bush to Haig; and its multinational business leaders have become whores who will do anything (including the committing of high treason) to make money. The Clinton Administration, expanding on the pro-China policies of the Bush Administration, has brazenly accepted huge bribes and payments from the Red Chinese government to influence American trade, and financial and military aid to China - turning the White House into a classic whorehouse. Never in U.S. history has such corruption or treason reached such high levels in government or such outrageous proportions. If it is allowed to continue, we will reap the whirlwind and may well fall from our lofty position as the world's top superpower.
1. THE GROWING (ENGINEERED) U.S./CHINESE TRADE IMBALANCE
"Merchants have no country. The mere spot on which they stand does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains." - Thomas Jefferson Have you walked into any general merchandise, department or hardware store in recent months and monitored the country (or countries) where the goods on the shelf are manufactured? About 90% are made abroad and well over half of the goods on U.S. shelves are made in Red China (many by slave labor) and sold in America at prices with which U.S. manufactures cannot compete. For example, just recently this writer was seeking to buy a heavy duty steel vice for a workbench. The U.S.-made vice sold for $79 and a Chinese-made vice of similar quality sold for $29. Multiply that example by tens of thousands of products and it becomes clear why thousands of America factories are closing, why whole industries are shutting down in the U.S., why millions of U.S. jobs are evaporating, and why large U.S. companies like GM, Ford, Chrysler, Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Proctor and Gamble, Amway, McDonald's, Coca Cola, Pepsico, Motorola, AT&T, General Electric, IBM, Allied Signal, Pfizer, etc. are relocating factories to Red China where wages are 25-30 cents per hour, or zero, if slave labor is used. China's U.S. trade surplus has risen from $3 billion in 1989 to $40 billion in 1996 and in January of this year was growing at a $50 billion annual rate. Through February, the U.S. trade deficit with China was running 37% higher than during the same period in 1996. U.S. tariffs on Chinese exports to America average 2%; while Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods exported to China average 35%. Contrary to the myth of the great China market for U.S. goods, China takes 1.7% of our exports (less than Singapore), while we take 33% of theirs. [ED. NOTE: On 30 cents per hour wages, or zero (if slave labor wages), the Chinese public can't afford to buy American products. But the Chinese military can!] America now has the largest trade deficit with China of any country in the world and China's trade surplus with America (i.e., its exports to America minus its imports from America) has now surpassed Japan's trade surplus with America. Red China is now America's largest trading partner, with 170,000 American jobs involved in U.S./Chinese trade and ten million Chinese jobs depending on it. The $105 billion in hard currency China has amassed from our trade deficits (up 43% over the past year) is being used to buy Russian submarines, ships, planes, and anti-ship missiles, all targeted on the U.S. 7th Fleet. When China takes over Hong Kong this summer, she will pick up another $70 billion in foreign exchange reserves. MOST FAVORED NATION TRADE STATUS - Every year the debate comes up in Congress on whether or not to renew China's Most-Favored-Nation trade status - which gives the Communists very low tariff rates for their exports to America. [ED. NOTE: See chart comparing the low rates presently levied under MFN and the greatly increased rates without MFN - and remember that China levies rates averaging 35% for U.S. goods exported to China.] A coalition of Christians, conservatives, and some liberal groups, House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (a liberal Democrat), and other human rights groups, who are repulsed by China's massive ongoing atrocities, torture, executions, slave labor, arms proliferation, intimidation of Hong Kong and Taiwan, etc. have mounted opposition to extending MFN trade status to China this year. Lobbying for MFN for China are the Clinton Administration (led by it's point man on China, Al Gore), Newt Gingrich and much of the liberal Republican leadership, including Bob Dole, Bush, Rockefeller, Kissinger, Haig, and a group of corporate lobbyists (whores?) - including those companies listed above in this section. [ED. NOTE: The Clinton Administration is also campaigning hard (and very well paid, no doubt) for admission of Red China to the World Trade Organization - which will further flood America with cheap Chinese goods and grease the skids for more high tech U.S. transfers to China.]
2. BURGEONING U.S. HIGH TECH TRANSFERS TO CHINA
The Clinton Administration and their globalist corporate comrades are in the process of transferring almost all of America's high technology (civilian and military) to the Communist government of Red China. The liberalization of American high tech exports to China actually began to accelerate in 1988 under the Reagan Administration, accelerated dramatically under Bush, and even more so under Clinton. Between 1982 and '86, the U.S. exported to China powerful computers, telecommunications equipment including fiber optics and mobile radio systems, and more sophisticated equipment for manufacturing semiconductors.
OPENING UP THE U.S. PATENT OFFICE TO CHINA -
But now, under Clinton, we are exporting "dual use" technology for building military jet fighters and bombers, missiles, automobiles, trucks, tanks, and a wide variety of military equipment. In March, according to an article in FDA Week, it was announced that U.S. Patent Commissioner Bruce Lehman has agreed to provide the Communist Chinese Patent Office the "entire" U.S. patent data base on magnetic tape for free! According to the article in FDA Week, Commissioner Lehman has "offered to provide the Chinese the entire collection of U.S. patent documentation covering over 160 years of patents in digital form." To further pour salt in the wound of this travesty, Lehman wants to give the Chinese Patent Office what is called the "first page database," which isn't even available in the U.S. This "first page data base" provides a condensed version of the patents, bibliographical data and drawings. This front file will include all new data issued each week. [ED. NOTE: MIA readers wishing more details on this treasonous patent giveaway by Lehman and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office should obtain the article by W. Arthur Fisher entitled: "Dismantling America's Patent System," published in the AntiShyster magazine, Volume 7, Number 1, P.O. Box 540786, Dallas, TX 75354.] On 2/7/96, the Los Angeles Daily News wrote that President Clinton had cleared the way for G.M. Hughes Electronics, Lockheed Martin Corp. and Loral Corp. to sell hundreds of millions of dollars of satellites to China. Clinton also waived export restrictions on U.S. satellite technology going to China. In 1994, McDonnell Douglas signed a huge contract with China to build commercial (civilian) aircraft in the PRC. McDonnell Douglas transferred a large quantity of high tech machine tool equipment to China for building these aircraft. Now U.S. satellite photos have revealed that Catic, the Chinese state-owned enterprise that McDonnell Douglas contracted with, illegally took the McDonnell Douglas equipment, used in the fabrication of our B-1 bombers, and relocated it for use at a missile factory 800 miles from Beijing at a facility deliberately built to house it. Other McDonnell Douglas aircraft manufacturing machine tools have been diverted for fighter aircraft production. And what was the Clinton Administration's response to this dangerous misappropriation of valuable U.S. military technology which never should have been placed in the Communists' hands in the first place. According to The Wall Street Journal (2/25/97) the Clinton Administration eased export controls on computer and telecommunications equipment that has similar "dual-use" potential. Clinton actually rewarded the Chinese treachery! China's number one priority at present is the acquisition of the most advanced Western technology, especially "dual use" technology that can be used for both civilian and military purposes. One way China does this is by requiring foreign companies to manufacture in China some of the components that go into the products sold there. To continue doing business in China, an American company is required not only to transfer advanced manufacturing technology to China, but also to train a Chinese workforce in the manufacture of the product - thereby setting up the Chinese as a competitor in the same business. The name given to this process is "offsetting" - transferring a portion of production work to China in order to secure sales there. One in-depth report on China's assiduous pursuit of offsets focused on the creation of a factory in Shanghai by the McDonnell Douglas Corporation, the manufacturer of passenger jets as well as of such mainstays of the U.S. Air Force as the F-15 fighter plane. Eager for a share of the China passenger-plane business, McDonnell Douglas went into a cooperative venture, in the early 1980's, with China's state-owned Shanghai Aviation Industrial Corporation. China assured the company a major share of the sales of narrow-body aircraft. In exchange, McDonnell Douglas agreed to have Chinese workers assemble the planes from kits at the Shanghai factory. The arrangement, as The Wall Street Journal put it in an investigation of McDonnell Douglas's strenuous efforts to make money in China, involved "one of the largest technology transfers in history." The company, the newspaper said, "provided enough technical data to fill a library." Moreover, the McDonnell Douglas venture became a model for China's deals with other high-tech companies. "No multinational, be it AT&T Corp. or General Motors Corp., can expect an entry pass without divulging technology early and often," the Journal reported. U.S. multinational corporations are now relocating factories to Red China by the hundreds. While General Motors workers were on strike at GM's Fort Wayne, Indiana plant in March, GM Chief Executive Jack Smith was with Vice President Gore in China to sign a $1.3 billion deal to build a GM car factory there (to build 100,000 cars per year). Obviously, the Made in China GM cars won't be for the Chinese market since most Chinese workers would have to work and save for several lifetimes to afford one. Part of the GM/China deal (indeed part of all such deals) is that GM will have to transfer most of its car making technology to China and spend $40 million for five technology training institutes. Boeing, who sold $1 billion dollars in aircraft to China last year, has received orders to build five 777 jets in China - where the Chinese will quickly acquire Boeing's aircraft manufacturing technology, just as they did that of McDonnell Douglas over the past decade. It should be remembered that much of the technology for building military aircraft is identical to technology for building commercial aircraft.
3. THE PEOPLE'S LIBERATION ARMY: BUSINESS ENGINE OF RED CHINA
A great number of the companies which Americans do business with in China, and which China owns and operates in America, are actually part of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), which owns and operates over 15,000 separate enterprises. New York Times columnist Abraham Rosenthal wrote recently: "The great part of U.S. business in China is with companies and cartels controlled by the Chinese military." And the rest of the businesses (not part of the PLA) are controlled by China's defense industrial complex which falls under Chinese government control via the State Council. In short, when Americans do business with China, they are doing business with the Red Army or the Chinese Communist government. All such firms are state owned. As Forbes magazine wrote (3/24/97): "Since the PLA began marching into business in the early 1980s, with approval from the Chinese leadership, it has built a sprawling network of businesses. These enterprises do everything from raising pigs to running airlines and hospitals, mining coal to owning hotels and operating paging and cellular networks. "Their research institutes and factories develop and produce munitions as well as aerospace, electronics, ships, satellites, and nuclear weapons. Three of the 12 teams in China's new professional basketball league are owned by units of the PLA, units of which also own several of the country's largest textile and pharmaceutical manufacturers...The People's Liberation Army is an octopus controlling much of Chinese industry and commerce." [ED. NOTE: And the profits from U.S. trade and business ventures go directly to China's army, navy, air force and missile detachments. They use the profits to increase their military power and sell missiles and other technology (often of U.S. origin) to other dictatorships (i.e., such as North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Syria, etc.] Richard Bernstein and Ron Munro, writing in their excellent new book The Coming Conflict With China, described how the Chinese military industrial complex, with the People's Liberation Army at its center, has incorporated many companies in the U.S. to sell products and obtain technology. Researchers at the AFL-CIO have identified 10 PLA-sponsored business groups in the U.S., each of which typically has several subsidiary companies. The Red Army exports toys (such as Barbie and GI Joe dolls), frozen fish, clothing, small electronics, small tools, athletic equipment, and a myriad of other products to the U.S. to earn tens of billions in foreign exchange that it needs for its military expansion and modernization program. The PLA owns hundreds of hotels [ED. NOTE: With most of the rooms electronically "bugged," no doubt]; through the Chinese Air Force operates China United Airlines; through the Navy runs a number of commercial shipping services; and controls China's cellular phone and electronic pager industries along with all radio frequencies. [ED. NOTE: Just let that soak in. When Americans buy Chinese products, they are helping to finance the expansion of the Chinese Red Army, to procure more sophisticated weapons in huge quantities, which will one day be used in a war with America. When Americans do business in China, they are in all likelihood doing business with the Chinese Red Army.] But the PLA-controlled companies do more than just earn massive foreign exchange for the Chinese Red Army. They also enable China's military to infiltrate hundreds of thousands of intelligence agents into every nook and cranny of America and the West - into businesses, universities, research centers, high tech laboratories, into the U.S. government itself, where they are stealing hundreds of thousands of high tech (civilian and military) secrets. Through their control of COSCO, the huge Chinese shipping conglomerate which Bill Clinton has promoted and authorized to take over the Long Beach Naval Air Station in Long Beach, California, the PLA's Poly Group, and Norinco (the PLA-owned arms manufacturer), the PLA recently was caught smuggling over 2,000 fully automatic AK-47s to California street gangs. Their "legitimate" businesses (like the Mafia-controlled "legitimate" businesses) give the PLA "cover" to conduct widespread espionage in America, smuggling of weapons to American street gangs and terrorists within the U.S., and to conduct electronic spying on the U.S. military. PLA-controlled companies are now popping up near or around U.S. military bases all around the country. Another function of the PLA operatives in America has been to buy influence, favors, trade concessions, and high technology from the Clinton Administration, from certain members of the U.S. Congress, and from greedy corporate officials. With tens of billions in foreign exchange profits from their trade with the U.S., the PLA has been very busy bribing U.S. officials, giving illegal campaign contributions to the Clinton Administration and the Democratic National Committee, and buying favorable PR and stories in mainline U.S. media publications. It is not certain how many Chinese-owned companies have been established in the U.S. but it is generally agreed that they already number in the thousands. Business Week estimates that 100 Chinese-owned companies "have employed sophisticated maneuvers to acquire listed companies in North America, gaining back door access to financial markets. Buying an already-operating American company is another method used by Chinese state-run enterprises like the PLA either to increase their revenues or to engineer technology transfers." One example is Southwest Products Company, which makes specialized bearings for all the major aircraft manufacturers in the U.S. Its bearings are part not only of civilian airliners, but also of NASA's space shuttle and the Defense Department's C-17 military transport. Southwest was purchased by Sunbase Asia, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed company controlled by a Chinese-Hong Kong group that has direct, cross-ownership links with a bearings company in China's northeast. Sunbase executives have made no secret of the fact that they plan to transfer the bearings technology from California to the Chinese bearings company. Bernstein and Munro have written that the PLA operates extensively in America for profit (i.e., to finance the growth of the Red Army) and to obtain high technology, especially that with military applications. A study carried out by the AFL-CIO, largely by examining shipping records of companies with direct export rights, found: "Not only are the larger PLA departments and military regions involved in trade, but the PLA Navy, Air Force, the 2nd Artillery, all of the military districts (i.e., there are 28 of them) and many of the group armies (there are 24) also manage their own import/export entities." Norinco, the huge PLA-controlled arms manufacturer, has several American subsidiaries - Beta Chemical, Beta Toys, Larin, Forte Lighting, and others that distribute its products throughout the U.S. Jeffery Fielder, an official of the AFL-CIO, testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in June '96, said: "Allowing Chinese military companies to do business in the U.S...is tantamount to subsidizing the modernization of the Chinese military."
4. HOW THE U.S. ESTABLISHMENT PROFITS FROM U.S.-CHINA TRADE
Ever since Richard Nixon and Henry Kissinger initiated American rapproachment with China in 1972, powerful Establishment figures have been cashing in with huge financial rewards from the China-U.S. relationship. The payoffs to Establishment insiders like Henry Kissinger, George Bush, Alexander Haig, Brent Scowcroft, Lawrence Eagleburger, David Rockefeller, and dozens of others are huge. Just as the Rockefellers and Armand Hammer (head of Occidental Petroleum) helped facilitate aid and trade between Russia and the U.S. from Lenin's rule in the 1920s forward, became Russia's top cheerleader in America, and received monopoly manufacturing, trading, and banking positions (and billions of dollars in profits), so Henry Kissinger, Alexander Haig, Brent Scowcroft, Lawrence Eagleburger, George Bush, Cyrus Vance, and a host of Establishment figures (Republican and Democrat) have been the pied pipers for U.S. trade with, and aid to, Red China. Collectively, this Establishment group has reaped hundreds of millions of dollars (probably billions) in payoffs, commissions, finder's fees, kickbacks or outright bribes from the Chinese Communist government and from U.S. multinational corporations wishing to do business in China. They (along with over 1,000 U.S. corporations they represent, who need the skids greased for doing business in, and with China) represent a powerful pro-China lobby in Washington which coerces and manipulates the U.S. government into making incredible unilateral trade concessions, high tech giveaways, military aid to the PLA, etc. The most powerful organization in this pro-China lobby is the Business Coalition for U.S.-China Trade - made up of over 1,000 U.S. corporations who trade with or heavily invest in China. Major players include Boeing (the leader of the group), Motorola, General Motors, General Electric, United Technologies, Mobil, Exxon, Caterpillar, United Technologies, Cargill, Phillip Morris, Proctor and Gamble, TRW, Westinghouse, American International group and a few dozen more. There is also the United States-China Business Council, representing about 300 companies that trade with Beijing. Kissinger and Haig (both former Republican Secretaries of State) are the two most powerful and active figures in this formidable pro-China lobby. Former Clinton advisor George Stephanopoulos recently said that America's pro-China foreign policy is heavily influenced by the Council on Foreign Relations, Lehman Brothers and Goldman Sachs - in other words, by the American Establishment. Money, power, greed, influence, and large political contributions are the watchwords of this pro-China lobby. Even the supposedly conservative Heritage Foundation and libertarian Cato Institute have been drawn into the pro-China lobby. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is also a powerful arm of this lobby, as is the Business Roundtable and the National Association of Manufacturers. Top Democrat politicians such as Clinton and Gore, and Republican leaders such as Newt Gingrich, Trent Lott, Dick Armey, Tom Delay, Bob Dole, etc. have also joined the pro-China lobby. As A.M. Rosenthal wrote in the New York Times (10/29/96): "Wake up America! Wake up to the truth that Bob Dole and the Republican leadership are partners with President Clinton and the Democratic leadership in building up the Chinese Communist dictatorship and its armed forces...Both parties have worked together to empower Asian dictatorships, particularly the Chinese, by enriching them ever more with trade and investment that strengthen their military and police...International investments and trade become suicidal for the U.S. when they enrich military dictatorships that stand for everything democracy detests and fears. China is a classic case - one more lesson to add to Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, Iraq, the whole list." The 3/25/97 Washington Times carried a partial list of pro-China corporate bribes (i.e., campaign contributions from large U.S. corporations doing business in China [see chart]). In effect, the Fortune 500 have become China's public relations/lobbying machine in Washington. This pro-China corporate lobby funnelled over $20 million in PAC money contributions to members of the House and Senate last year. The Republicans have received more than the Democrats, and that's why they won't take down Clinton in the Chinagate campaign funding scandal. They are as dirty as the Democrats! And that includes Special Prosecutor Kenneth Starr as well. As the New American (4/28/97) wrote: "The `New China Lobby' is led by former U.S. government officials, such as former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger (CFR) and Alexander M. Haig, Jr. (CFR), who have become `counselors' to companies doing business in China. The role of these outside advisers is to forge contacts between American businesses and the Communist oligarchy in China. Bernstein and Munro wrote: `The consultant knows the Chinese leaders, the American company gets a meeting with the relevant ones; the consultant gets paid by the corporation, and in order to solidify his all-important access to Chinese power brokers, he makes public statements supporting the policies that Beijing favors.' Kissinger and Haig are the two most conspicuous practitioners of this corrupt trade, and also the most slavishly devoted to the Beijing party line. Each has written op-ed columns praising the late Deng Xiaoping and urging closer U.S.-China cooperations, and each has used his influence on Capitol Hill in defense of Chinese interests." As Bernstein and Munro wrote: "On the very day of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Kissinger's syndicated column referred to Deng Xiaoping as `one of the great reformers in Chinese history' and a man `who chose a more humane and less chaotic course for China.'" Haig has been even more aggressive in defending the Red Chinese butchers, appearing in public with, and defending the Red Chinese leaders just a few months after they slaughtered up to 10,000 student demonstrators in 1989. When China (in early '96) blockaded the Taiwan Straits and lobbed nuclear capable missiles a few miles off the coast of Taiwan (both were acts of war) and threatened to nuke Los Angeles if America came to the aid of Taiwan, Haig frantically called members of Congress, defending China and urging them not to impose trade sanctions against China. Haig is also a paid "domestic and overseas senior honorary advisor" to the Chinese Overseas Shipping Company (COSCO), a firm created by the Chinese military which has been involved in espionage against and smuggling of weapons into America. Haig has lobbied heavily to obtain the naval base in Long Beach, California for COSCO [ED. NOTE: in actuality, for the Red Chinese military - the PLA.]. A 3/25/97 Washington Times article entitled Famous Names Well Paid To Support China wrote: "Henry A. Kissinger, Secretary of State in the Nixon and Ford Administrations and long time advisor to major American businesses in China, is a key advisor to corporate leaders of a lobbying campaign seeking expanded U.S.-China trade relations. Alexander M. Haig, Jr., former Secretary of State under Reagan, is also advising both American companies and the Chinese government's maritime shipping company in the campaign. "Both former Cabinet secretaries have received lucrative fees as deal-makers for business clients with ventures in China, and both have a large financial stake in expanded U.S.-China trade relations, according to Asia trade experts. "The multimillion-dollar business campaign to retain China's most-favored-nation trading status and get China into the World Trade Organization strains the limits of lobbying disclosure laws and possibly violates the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), according to Justice Department officials. "Mr. Kissinger and Mr. Haig are not registered with the department as foreign agents, even though the law requires registration and disclosure of activities and compensation by U.S. residents representing foreign government or business interests in the United States. "Like many prominent Americans advocating enhanced U.S.-China trade ties, Mr. Kissinger's consulting firm maintains that it does not work directly for the Chinese government or Chinese business interests, but advises U.S. companies that are in or want to be in the China market. In the United States, they aid the Chinese cause through public advocacy, op-ed writings and media appearances. "Mr. Kissinger, who travels frequently to China for top-level meetings with Chinese officials on behalf of U.S. corporate clients such as Coca-Cola, the insurance conglomerate - American International Group, the Chase Manhattan Bank and other companies, also has served as a paid media expert for ABC News, CBS, and CNN. "Mr. Kissinger also has advised the Indonesian Lippo Group, linked to the Democratic fund-raising scandal, and was in Jakarta in November 1994, during a conference of the Asian Bankers Association, at the invitation of Lippo's billionaire founder Mochtar Riady, according to a conference participant. "Known as `Mr. China,' Mr. Kissinger has defended Beijing while promoting his view of diplomatic and commercial `engagement' with the authoritarian regime. After the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre of pro-democracy students, Mr. Kissinger publicly defended Beijing's action against the demonstrators and opposed calls for U.S. sanctions. "In February 1995, Mr. Kissinger personally admonished House Speaker Newt Gingrich after the Georgia Republican, on a visit to Taipei, called for Taiwan's admission to the United Nations as an independent sovereign state. Mr. Kissinger even summoned the speaker to his New York home for discussions credited with moderating Mr. Gingrich's pro-Taiwan stance, said a friend of the speaker's. Mr. Gingrich did not respond to inquiries. "The $26 billion American International Group, a major Kissinger client with offices in Shanghai, is a leading organizer of the multimillion-dollar lobbying campaign by the newly formed Business Coalition for U.S.-China Trade. Other backers include Boeing, Motorola, General Motors, General Electric, and IBM. "Mr. Haig, adviser to United Technologies, another backer of the lobbying effort, has performed a similar deal-making role in Beijing, while promoting Chinese arguments as a syndicated newspaper columnist and `expert consultant' to major news organizations. "Mr. Haig helped United Technologies, a Hartford, Conn., jet engine and elevator manufacturer, win seventeen joint ventures in China." Insight magazine (4/21/97) wrote about the Kissinger/Haig Establishment profiteering from U.S.-China trade, their political influence peddling, and how, for huge financial rewards, they help their corporate clients secure business in China. "Make no mistake about it, they are hired guns for the trade partners of the People's Republic of China. It is their access to Beijing that makes former Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Alexander M. Haig, a retired army general, the favorite gunslingers of U.S. firms vying to tap into the PRC's market. "Kissinger and Haig stand to profit richly from contracts with China that, in some cases, put the United States in a vulnerable position, according to current and former national security officials. "Insight has learned Kissinger personally pockets a percentage of profits generated from deals he develops for American firms, while, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Haig has collected directly from the Chinese at least once as a paid but unregistered adviser - allegedly a felony breach of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. "Greg Mastel, vice president of the Washington-based Economic Strategy Institute, describes Kissinger and Haig as the `third arm' of China's lobbying movement. Kissinger and Haig have access. They can send the message directly to senior officials. "China critics note that they have yet to see Kissinger and Haig blast the Communist Party for engaging in human-rights violations. Instead the two are battling for `most favored nation,' or MFN, trade status, for taxpayer-guaranteed credits at a time when there is a $40 billion trade surplus in China's favor, and for admitting Beijing to the World Trade Organization. Senior U.S. intelligence officials claim this is about personal profit. "Many of the huge American firms tied to Kissinger and Haig have been targeted by the People's Liberation Army, or PLA, for espionage. Fialka's book War By Other Means claims that nearly 450 Chinese firms are under federal investigation for stealing technology and transferring it to the PLA. "`It is disheartening when you have senior American officials working with a Communist government that is hostile to the U.S.,' says Mastel, who is writing a book on Red China's economic rise. `They try to avoid the debate that they are dealing with technology that could end up with the PLA. The PLA is the biggest manufacturer in China. Technology transfer is an important part of these contracts. The Chinese government demands technology be transferred. It's part of the deal.' "Kissinger, whom former China Ambassador Winston Lord calls `Uncle Henry,' personally stands to profit by millions as firms he represents contract with China and other countries where the former secretary is an active facilitator. "To become a corporate client of Kissinger, a corporation pays a $200,000 fee. In some cases Kissinger also will take a seat on the company's board. In 1990, he sat on boards for American Express, Union Pacific, R.M. Macy, Continental Grain, CBS Inc., Revlon Group Inc. and Freeport-McMoran (FMR). "In the 1980s The Wall Street Journal reported that Haig earned $600,000 from International Signal & Control Group PLC for helping sell weapon fuses to a PLA-affiliated company shortly after leaving the White House. He is a senior consultant to United Technologies of Hartford, Conn., a jet manufacturer with at least 17 joint ventures with China. In addition, Haig is an `honorary senior adviser' to China Ocean Shipping Co., or COSCO, the world's fifth-largest shipping firm." A growing number of Americans including congressmen and senators [ED. NOTE: Those not "on the take"] are beginning to realize that Kissinger and Haig are Communist China's two top agents of influence in America and are beginning to ask two questions: a. Are they (and dozens like them, including Bush, Clinton, Gore, Gingrich, Dole, Eagleburger, Scowcroft, Vance, Brock, Cheney, etc.) just whores for profit, who will do anything for money, even if it means betraying their country to a deadly enemy? b. Or are they intentional traitors who are cleverly working and betraying their country to our Red Chinese enemy in order to bring down America or "comfortably merge" a greatly weakened U.S. into their globalist version of the New World Order. In a better day in America, the treason trials would have already begun, and the workmen would be busy erecting the gallows! At the very least Kissinger, Haig, and their fellow agents of Chinese influence (listed above) should be prosecuted for violation of the Foreign Agents Registration Act - for failing to register under FARA and disclose their foreign contacts and sources of income. Why should the rich and corrupt be able to blatantly violate such laws?
5. CHINESE POLITICAL INFLUENCE BUYING IN AMERICA
Potentially the biggest political scandal in U.S. history has broken over the Clinton White House and the Democratic National Committee, as an avalanche of evidence has begun to pour forth that Red China bought favorable trade policy by pouring millions of dollars into the re-election of Bill Clinton and other Congressional Democrats. The National Security Agency intercepted communiques indicating that China was targeting 30 Congressional candidates (mostly Democrats) for influence buying campaign contributions. Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich was one of those candidates. On 3/17/97, Senator Orrin Hatch said in the Washington Times that the Clinton Administration was warned in 1995 that China was unlawfully trying to buy influence, but Democrats continued China-linked fundraisers in the 1996 campaign. Hatch said on Face the Nation (3/16/97) that: "Since 1995, the FBI has told the State Department, the CIA, the Justice Department, both intelligence committees of the House and Senate, at least seven members of Congress, and two members of the National Security Council that the Chinese were trying to buy influence in this country." The Washington Times (3/17/97) in an article entitled China's Gifts Part of Espionage, wrote: "China's government pumped cash into Democratic campaign coffers in the last election as a calculated extension of its ongoing economic espionage program in the United States, say federal investigators and a former U.S. ambassador to China. "U.S. security agencies and the Justice Department's Criminal Division know from counterintelligence surveillance and a continuing probe that Beijing's diplomatic community and espionage network helped Democratic fundraiser John Huang and other political operatives get millions of dollars in campaign donations and `walking-around' cash for last year's election, FBI investigators said. "`The FBI is on to something where they have picked out the Chinese official connection,' said James F. Lilley, U.S. ambassador to China in the Bush administration and a former CIA officer. "`I'm talking about the Chinese consul general [Liao Zhibong]. I'm talking about staff officers, Ministry of State Security staff officers under unofficial cover that we know are involved in this,' said Mr. Lilley, now director of the Institute for Global Chinese Affairs at the University of Maryland. "Beijing's effort to manipulate American political campaigns kicked into high gear after Mr. Huang first approached Chinese diplomats in Washington in 1994 as a Commerce Department organizer of corporate trade missions, investigators said. "Mr. Huang, a Chinese immigrant raised in Taiwan, was a banker and top-ranking executive of Indonesia's Lippo financial conglomerate when he joined the 1992 Clinton campaign as a fund-raiser in California. "Lippo has substantial investments in Hong Kong and China, and the investment arm of Beijing's Trade Ministry, China Resources Holdings Co., is part-owner of Lippo's land and property subsidiaries in Asia. "Mr. Lilley confirmed the Chinese economic espionage connection to Democratic fundraising in the 1992 and 1996 campaigns. `They've been doing it in the United States. To them it is logical - a greedy system that feeds itself on money,' Mr. Lilley said of China's decision to pump cash into American politics through its money-laundering apparatus. `If you want to play in that game, you get in it that way.' "U.S. counterintelligence agents and the FBI discovered Chinese efforts to interfere in American campaigns as early as 1991, when FBI agents warned a number of Democratic members of Congress to watch for Chinese donations passed through intermediaries, said Mr. Lilley, who was then ambassador in Beijing. "Mr. Lilley continued, `China for 400 years has regularly, consistently involved themselves deeply in the internal affairs of other countries, whether it's in Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia, United States, Latin America. "`The documentation, the record, is all there. Their diplomats have been thrown out of country after country for being deeply involved in activities against the interests of that country,' he said. "The ex-ambassador also scoffed at China's claim to be too poor to interfere in other nations' affairs. "`The Chinese have more foreign exchange than any other country in the world except Japan. They have over $100 billion. They have huge, wealthy enclaves on the coast of China, linked to Southeast Asia, where there are literally billions and billions of dollars available. They are linked to the Hong Kong fat cats...This is big, big, big money.' "In following China's suspected money-laundering operations and Mr. Huang's dealings with agents for Beijing in 1995 and 1996, criminal investigators have tracked interference to the top levels of Chinese diplomatic offices in Washington and other American cities, Mr. Lilley said. "Investigators know that large sums of money were illegally distributed to Asian-Americans and others to mask the source of contributions from the Chinese government, Lippo entities and other illicit sources linked to Beijing. "The Democratic National Committee has announced its intention to return more than $3 million in illegal and questionable contributions credited to Mr. Huang, Mr. Chung, Little Rock businessman Charlie Yah Lin Trie, Thailand trade lobbyist Pauline Kanchanalak, Lippo landscape architect Arief Wiriadinata and his wife, and others. "Mr. Lilley said the Chinese have perfected the art of laundering money internationally in 100 years of financing military and economic espionage. "`They know how to move money through the Chinese bamboo network. The money goes from Singapore to New York banks. It moves in the form of investment. It is at the disposal of the local representative, who, in turn, gives it to somebody who, in turn, gives it to the politician.' "Nicholas Eftimiades, a former Defense Intelligence Agency analyst, said Beijing's espionage in the United States includes the assignment of 1,500 Chinese diplomats operating out of 70 offices, 15,000 Chinese students who arrive in the country each year, and 10,000 Chinese who travel in some 2,700 visiting delegations each year. "In the book `Chinese Intelligence Operations,' Mr. Eftimiades said agents of Beijing's Ministry of State Security target the large community of Chinese-Americans to recruit spies. China has extended that strategy to buy policy influence among politicians with contributions as another form of bribery, Mr. Lilley said. `It's the way they operate in Asian countries. They do it by bribing government officials; they bribe them to change policy,' he said. "Beijing is trying to influence the U.S. position on a host of issues related to ongoing negotiations about China's and Taiwan's entry into the World Trade Organization, market access for American products in China, intellectual-property piracy, technology transfers and weapons proliferation, he said." In a 12/20/96 editorial in the Rocky Mountain News entitled Money Trail Leads To The Top, William Safire wrote: "Never in the history of the White House has so much influence been for sale for so much money to so many foreign connections. "In olden times, we had some invitations to state dinners and places on the Kennedy Center board going to campaign contributors. But it took shameless Bill Clinton to put a $100,000-per-night price tag on sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom. "And in the old days, major donors got to shake the presidential hand in receptions before fundraising dinners. But it took Bill Clinton to sell the run of the White House - a hand in policy-making and an ear to secrets - to James Riady and John Huang of Indonesia's Lippo Group for $4 million." Safire points out that all through the '96 Clinton campaign, as dirty (illegal) money poured into the campaign from the Asian connection (i.e., Red China and other Asian sources) that Bill, Hillary, and Harold Ickes, Jr. (the chief scandal containment officer - who has since been dumped) knew all about the sources of the funds to the Democratic Finance Committee, didn't lift a finger to stop them, and then participated in an illegal cover-up. Pat Buchanan recently charged that Clinton has turned the DNC into a wholly owned subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Army. Could Bill Clinton be the first U.S. president to be put in office by the Chinese Communists? Evidence continues to mount that the Clinton Administration has been heavily influenced by Chinese money (i.e., the Clinton support for MFN trade status for China and for admission of China to the W.T.O.; the Clinton transferring of our best military technology to the People's Liberation Army; Clinton pressure for PLA connected COSCO to lease the Long Beach, California naval air station; the Clinton acceptance of the PLA taking over both entrances to the strategically vital Panama Canal; the Clinton closing down of massive coal mining fields in Utah, with the alternate source of Indonesia (where Lippo has huge coal interests) for that coal; Clinton liberalization of U.S.-Chinese trading; and much more). And as if to give Clinton a quid pro quo, China became the largest foreign buyer of U.S. treasury paper last year, helping to keep U.S. interest rates down and the U.S. dollar strong - which of course helped the U.S. stock market and Clinton's re-election efforts. It's called mutual back scratching - or "all in the family." If Bill and Hillary Clinton and Al Gore are proven to have been directly and knowledgeably involved in the illegal Chinese government influence buying contributions, they should be impeached, tried and jailed like any other criminals. [ED. NOTE: There are a number of reasons why MIA is skeptical that Clinton or most of his comrades will go down over Chinagate. Most of the top hierarchy of the Republican Party are also deeply in bed with the Chinese Communists - many for over 20 years (i.e., Kissinger, Haig, Bush, Dole, Vance, Brock, Carla Hills, Eagleberger, Scowcroft, Cheney, Gingrich - all powerful Republicans! Many of the top Republicans still in office have been bought by China or by the powerful pro-China Fortune 500 corporate lobby (described in Section A-4 above). And as Strategic Investment (3/19/97) reported, Kenneth Starr is a phoney, placed as independent counsel by the Establishment to protect Bill Clinton and Establishment interests. How can Starr pursue Chinagate when one of his largest law clients is the China International Trust and Investment Corp (CITIC) - a ministry level corporation owned by the Chinese government and reporting directly to the State Council of the People's Republic of China? Chairman of CITIC is Wang Jun, who is also chairman of Poly Group Corp, the major arms trading section of the PLA. CITIC and Poly Group are closely affiliated - Poly was the company caught trying to smuggle 2,000 fully automatic weapons to California street gangs last year. Wang Jun, a key figure in the Chinese influence buying scandal, met with Bill Clinton in the White House (2/6/96). This meeting was detailed on the front page of the Washington Post (12/20/96). Wang Jun and CITIC are clients of Kenneth Starr. Nevertheless, Starr continues to represent CITIC (as their Washington attorney) while pretending to investigate Clinton. How can Starr investigate Clinton's connection with Wang Jun and illegal campaign contributions from the Chinese government funnelled through Jun, when Jun is Starr's client? Is something wrong with this picture? Does it sound like the fix is in and the Starr investigation will come to naught? What do you think?]
B. THE CHINESE COMMUNIST MILITARY BUILDUP
"Those who do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat the mistakes of history." - Santayana "Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace." - Jeremiah 8:1 In the 1930s, Germany and Japan (with the help of greedy, profit-driven Western corporate interests - while the Western governments disarmed, and along with their public, looked the other way) jointly began the most massive military buildup in modern history - way out of proportion to any needs for national defense. Both countries were emerging industrial/economic giants (second only to the United States) with expansionist designs for their regions and well beyond. Germany coveted all of Europe, and Japan coveted all of Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. These two emerging superpowers (after conducting a decade of the most massive military buildup in modern history) joined forces, and along with a third power (i.e., Italy) formed the Axis Alliance and launched World War II. The Western powers (i.e., the Allies), who had slept through the 1930s, were forced to mobilize in the early 1940s on a come-from-behind crash basis, as Germany (and Italy) quickly occupied virtually all of Western Europe and Japan quickly occupied virtually all of Southeast Asia and the Western and South Pacific. Had America and her allies not mobilized (albeit very late) the Axis ambitions, fueled by early non-stop victories, would have gone global, taking Germany across the Atlantic and Japan across the Pacific to attack a disarmed and unprepared Fortress America (and perhaps South America) on two fronts (i.e., on its east and west coasts). Five years later, with much of Europe and Southeast Asia lying in smoldering ruins, with 55 million people dead, the Axis powers surrendered and World War II came to an end. But history tells us that in the first two years of that great war, the Axis Powers, which made a few crucial tactical strategic blunders - almost won it all. Had they done so, the world would have sunk into a second dark age for a hundred years. DEJA VU: In the 1990s, Communist China and the uniting Middle Eastern Islamic powers (with the help of greedy, profit-driven Western corporate interests - while the Western governments have disarmed and, along with their public, have looked the other way) have jointly begun the most massive military buildup in modern history - way out of proportion to any needs for national defense. Both powers are emerging industrial/economic giants (second only to the United States) with expansionist designs for their regions and well beyond (i.e., China covets all of Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific and the Middle Eastern Islamic states covet Israel, all of the Middle East and North and North/Central Africa). These two emerging superpowers (after conducting a decade of the most massive military buildup in modern history) are now joining forces, and along with a third power (i.e., Russia), are forming the New Axis alliance which, within a few years, will launch World War III. The Western powers (i.e., the New Alliance), who slept through the 1990s, will be forced to mobilize (early in the next decade) on a come-from-behind, crash basis as Red China moves to occupy Southeastern Asia and the Western Pacific, and the Middle Eastern Islamic states (in alliance with Russia) moves to conquer Israel, occupy the entire Middle East and North/Central Africa and threaten Central Asia. If America and her allies do not massively mobilize (albeit very late) the New Axis ambitions, fueled by early non-stop victories, will go global, taking Red China across the Pacific and Islam/Russia into Western Europe and across the Atlantic [ED. NOTE: Remember, Russia still has the largest Navy in the world.] to attack a disarmed and unprepared Fortress America on two fronts (i.e., on its east and west coasts). World War III, which will probably be fought in the next decade (i.e., 2000-2010), may be won in the first two years (or less) - especially in a world of rapidly proliferating nuclear and biological weapons, and the odds may well be with the initiator/aggressor (i.e., the New Axis alliance). If the Chinese/Islamic/Russian Axis alliance should win the next great war [ED. NOTE: Their combined armaments (nuclear and conventional) already equal those of the Western allies combined - and all three powers have stated long-term goals of global hegemony], the world will sink into a second dark age for a hundred years. Does history repeat itself? Indeed it does, because human nature never changes. In the 1920s a Russian economist named Kondratieff identified a supercycle or long wave (now called the Kondratieff Wave) which fluctuates throughout the world in a 50 to 60 year super wave or cycle. It includes a speculative boom (which MIA believes is about to come to an end) followed by a deflationary bust and depression. A major war and a few minor ones show up in the supercycle as well. Why does history repeat itself? Because human nature never changes and after two to three generations, people forget the mistakes of their grandparents' generation and repeat them. It has been about 60 years since our grandparents' generation disarmed, allowed greedy corporate interests to arm our enemies, and allowed our leaders to appease the evil emerging Axis powers. [ED. NOTE: Remember Neville Chamberlain's infamous pronouncement at Munich in 1938: "There will be peace in our day." World War II followed shortly thereafter.] Today, about 60 years later, as greedy corporate interests arm and build up our enemies, as we (and our Western allies) disarm and appease the New Axis powers, as the public looks the other way and celebrates our great economic good fortune, we are moving once again, ominously toward war (i.e., World War III). History does repeat itself, and as Santayana said, if we will not learn the lessons of history (and we will not), we will be doomed to repeat the mistakes of history. But this time, will we win?
1. CHINA IS CREATING A MILITARY MONSTER
"Subjugating the enemy's army without fighting is the true pinnacle of excellence. Thus, the highest realization of warfare is to attack the enemy's plans." - The Art of War, Sun Tsu "All warfare is based on deception." - The Art of War, Sun Tsu China has embarked on a major buildup of state-of-the-art military might, including its first aircraft carriers, designed to give the People's Liberation Army capability for defeating U.S. forces and threatening U.S. interests in Asia and the Western Pacific and projecting Red Chinese power at least 1000 miles out into the Pacific. In spite of highly understated figures on military expenditures, Richard Bernstein and Ross Munro, writing in the March/April issue of Foreign Affairs, estimate that China last year spent $87 billion on armaments and military expansion (and that number has been growing at 11-14% annually in recent years). And with cheap (or slave) labor and a lower cost for building weapons, that expenditure could be worth two to three times that amount in U.S. military spending (i.e., $87 billion goes a lot further in China than in America). Though China's military overall, at this point, is not as large, nor are its weapons as sophisticated as our own, it still has the third largest military in the world (after Russia's and America's) and at the present rate at which it is growing and modernizing (and America is disarming and downsizing our own military) within five to 15 years the PLA will be equal to or ahead of our own military. [ED. NOTE: China's army, at 3 million troops, is in fact twice as large as America's active duty armed forces at 1.5 million troops.] Some highlights of China's present military strength follow:

(Source: U.S. Naval Institute: The Military Balance: 1996/97; International Institute for Strategic Studies; Chinese Government) Charles Wolff, Jr., at the Rand Corporation, estimates that by 2015, China's annual GDP will be $10-12 trillion (up from $5 trillion today) and equal to America's (which is $7.5 trillion today); and the PRC's military capital is estimated to rise to $410 billion versus $895 billion for America's in 2015. Other intelligence estimates project that China's economy could be equal to America's as early as 2007 (i.e., 10 years from now), with GDP of $8 trillion for each country. [ED. NOTE: But because China can build more for far less, with cheap or slave labor, and tiny R&D costs (i.e., they steal or are given their technology by the West), and within five years will be building most of their military hardware rather than buying it on the world arms market, that $410 billion number could be worth two to three times that much in Western terms.] The Chinese military (the PLA) is presently shopping the world on a massive buying splurge (financed from trade with the U.S.) for ships, missiles, and submarines. It already has the world's third largest nuclear arsenal in terms of delivery vehicles - some of which can hit Los Angeles (as a PRC official warned in early '96) and the U.S. west coast. Within five to ten years, with the help of her Axis partner Russia and U.S. missile technology and other high tech transfers, China will be a world class nuclear power on a par with America and Russia and will be capable of targeting the entire U.S. with nukes. In 1988, aided by Western technology, China developed the neutron bomb - a high radiation nuclear device designed to kill enemy personnel, but sparing nearby structures. Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, recently quoted in the Washington Times, said: "The kinds of things the Chinese are doing to enhance their military capability are both offensive in nature in the sense that they involve power projection, and are out of proportion to any threat." Rep. Floyd D. Spence (R-SC), chairman of the House National Security Committee, recently said in the same Times article: "Chinese leaders have said that we [America] are the enemy and stand as the major roadblock checking their desire to dominate East Asia." A few of China's recent military advances include: 1) a 10-fold increase of the army's rapid reaction force to 200,000 troops; 2) the building of 34 modern warships over the past three years; 3) development of a fleet of nuclear capable M-9 and M-11 mobile launched missiles of the type fired near Taiwan in early '96; 4) acquisition from Russia of two Sovremenny-class destroyers equipped with modern cruise missiles (i.e., the Sunburn, a supersonic nuclear capable cruise missile designed to skim wave tops and hit ships. It is very difficult to defeat.); 5) acquisition from Russia of two Kilo-class attack submarines - with two more on order; [ED. NOTE: Within three to five years, utilizing Russian and U.S. technology (as well as French, British, and Israeli technology), China will be building most of her weapons systems herself. China has near-term plans to build a new class of nuclear ballistic missile launching submarines and a new class of nuclear attack submarines.] 6) Acquisition of her first aircraft carrier - probably from France [ED. NOTE: Within a few years, China will be building her own carriers. Carriers are essential to China if she is to project her power into the East and South China Seas and into the Western Pacific]; 7) acquisition of 48 new Russian SU-27 fighter aircraft which will within a year or two begin to be co-produced by Russia and China in China; 8) the developing and production of six new types of fighter aircraft [ED. NOTE: Britain and Israel have been negotiating to supply China's Air Force with advanced electronics]. 9) Replacing older warships with new ships outfitted with advanced anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air missiles and anti-submarine capabilities; 10) building land-based and mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles with multiple warheads [ED. NOTE: The Chinese missile program is being greatly enhanced and accelerated by sophisticated missile technology transfers from Boeing, McDonnell Douglas, Hughes-GM, United Technology and other high tech U.S. firms.] Many of the new weapons being purchased and developed include systems designed for attacking U.S. ships and aircraft, including two Russian warships with SS-N-22 anti-ship cruise missiles which Moscow developed to destroy U.S. Aegis-class ships. U.S. high technology warfare in the 1991 Persian Gulf War, especially precision-guided bombs, stealth aircraft, and long-range cruise missiles, dealt a fatal blow to China's army-oriented "sea of people" warfare strategy employed in human wave attacks during the Korean War. Just as Japan was a formidable sea power at the peak of its power during World War II, so China is reorienting its strategy to become a major sea power. As the Washington Times (4/10/97) wrote: "`The effectiveness of modern long-range land-attack cruise missiles convinced the Chinese leadership that the first line of China's maritime defense must be moved hundreds of miles out to sea,' the Office of Naval Intelligence report says. "China has begun seeking high quality advanced technology weaponry and has focused its military strategy on projecting power along its 10,000 nautical miles of coastline as part of a `Two Island Chain' strategy. "The strategy calls for beefing up naval and air forces to project power from China's east coast to cover two sets of islands. One stretches south from Japan through Taiwan and all the way to Indonesia and Singapore. The other embraces a huge swath of the Pacific Ocean that includes all of Japan's islands, areas beyond the Mariana Islands and a line extended southward hundreds of miles west of the Philippines. "`The Chinese navy should exert effective control of the seas within the first island chain,' says People's Liberation Army Gen. Liu Huaqing, head of the PLA navy. `Offshore should not be interpreted as coastal as we used to know it. Offshore is a concept relative to the high seas. It means the vast sea waters within the second island chain.'" [ED. NOTE: See the map which illustrates this strategy.] China is growing so fast that its population and economic size will outstrip its ability to produce enough food and oil within about a decade. The East and South China Seas are teeming with huge fishing grounds, have large oil reserves beneath them, and are rich in mineral resources, making them (and the whole region) a tempting target for China, much as Japan expanded in the '40s into what it called its Greater Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere (i.e., Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific) in order to capture and utilize more natural resources. China has two-thirds of East Asia's population and an unquenchable thirst for oil, food, and mineral resources. China needs to create 10 million jobs per year just to keep pace with its burgeoning population and economy. She is therefore highly motivated to build a military large enough to dominate the region. The Chinese Red Army is emerging as the single most powerful and richest institution in the country. It is not a stretch to say that the Chinese government is the PLA; China's economic colossus is the PLA; and China's future is the PLA. And, as Bernstein and Munro recently pointed out, "unlike the Soviet Union, China is not becoming a powerful military power based on a pitifully weak economy, but a powerful economy, [ED. NOTE: The second largest in the world - soon to become the largest.] creating a credible military force." [ED. NOTE: In considering China's growing versus America's declining military power it is helpful to remember how long it took for Germany and Japan to go from third rate to world class military powers in the 1930s - less than a decade!]
2. THE U.S. ARMING OF RED CHINA
If Red China is becoming a military superpower and threat to the West and to America, it is in large part because we are providing the financing for her buildup, we are providing the technology and we are providing the arms. A Wall Street Journal article (12/6/96) by U.S. defense analyst Michael Ledeen, entitled Our Suicidal Policy of Arming China, wrote: "The issue that may well turn out to be the most important for our future: our active complicity in arming the People's Republic of China, and, through the PRC, the `rogue nations' that seek our destruction. "We won the Cold War in large part because the West, led by the U.S., was able to deny the Soviet Empire the military (and so-called `dual use') technology that was desperately needed for the Soviets to remain competitive with Western armed forces. "But instead of maintaining this admirable system of export controls, we gutted it, and today China is building a formidable military force with American supercomputers, night vision systems, multi-axis machine tools that make cruise missiles and attack aircraft stronger and more precise, sensitive underwater sensing systems that make it harder for us to track their submarines and easier for them to track ours, and so forth. "This suicidal policy was begun under the Bush Administration, and then greatly expanded and accelerated by Bill Clinton, Ron Brown, William Perry and Warren Christopher." Ledeen continued in The New American (1/20/97): "Today we are selling China some of our most sensitive technology, and at bargain-basement prices. We have recently permitted the PRC to obtain the technology to manufacture its own Global Positioning System, which is the key to the most accurate targeting systems for cruise missiles and other advanced weapons. We have permitted the Chinese to buy technology used to build `stealth' aircraft, and we are permitting them to buy, at auction, entire defense factories, until very recently used to manufacture state-of-the-art military components, from advanced lasers to exotic missile skins." Over the past few years, the Clinton Administration has frequently referred to the new "strategic partnership" between the U.S. and Communist China [ED. NOTE: In spite of the fact that the Communist leadership of China hate our guts]. This "strategic partnership," the same garbage Bush and the Establishment tried to sell to America before the collapse of the Soviet Union, is an excuse for the Clintonistas to open up America's patent office, high technology, military bases and defense secrets to the Chinese military (PLA) leadership. Chinese military leaders (like the Russian military leaders of a few years earlier) are being given carte blanche by Clinton to visit U.S. military bases, defense plants, the Pentagon (even the Pentagon War Room) and to observe virtually all of our high tech weapons. In August 1994, Secretary of Defense William Perry (now retired) hosted Chinese PLA General Xu Huizi (the man who issued the order to massacre thousands of students demonstrators at Tiananmen Square in 1989). Perry, who has cultivated contact with China's military for 20 years and is a major architect of the new "strategic partnership," took General Huizi for a tour of the top secret Pentagon War Room. A few months later, Perry signed a ground-breaking military cooperation agreement with Lt. Gen. Ding Henggao, chairman of COSTINO, China's Commission on Science Technology and Industry for National Defense. COSTINO is in charge of testing and development for all weapons for the PLA, as well as industrial and military espionage. In short, General Ding is China's top weapons scientist and he commands China's best spies. Ding proposed to Perry that they establish the "U.S.-China Defense Commission" to facilitate technology transfers from the U.S. to China. The Commission was established in October 1994. In December, President Clinton hosted at the White House General Chi Haotia, the Chief of Staff of the people's Liberation Army who personally planned and executed the Tiananmen Square assault which massacred at least 4,000 democracy demonstrators in June, 1989. Chi, the "butcher of Tiananmen," a hardline Maoist Communist who also killed U.S. troops in Korea, was introduced outside the Pentagon by Defense Secretary Perry as "my colleague." Chi was leading the highest ranking delegation of Chinese Communist military leaders ever to visit America on a two week tour of U.S. military and defense facilities. Chi, who as Chief of Staff of the PLA, is responsible for the violence unleashed on Chinese citizens in recent years (i.e., tortures, incarcerations in the Chinese gulag [the loagai], executions, baby killings, etc.) brazenly denied that anyone had been killed at Tiananmen Square. Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) said Mr. Clinton was honoring "the butcher of Beijing" and "giving his stamp of approval to the continuing reign of terror in China." [ED. NOTE: This writer has talked to people who were there and saw the massacre. Apparently Chi has one thing in common with his host Bill Clinton - the inability to tell the truth.] This spring a number of Communist Chinese colonels visited Harvard and the Pentagon, and Joint Chiefs chairman John Shalikashuili will visit China this year. Preliminary planning is now underway for joint training exercises between American and Communist Chinese military forces. All of this "strategic partnership" activity is going on in spite of the fact that the Chinese Communist leaders consider America to be their number one enemy, and are preparing for war against us - after we have built them up to be our military equals or superior.
3. THE EMERGING SINO-SOVIET ALLIANCE
When Kissinger and the U.S. Establishment opened up China in the early 1970s, they referred to "playing the China card"; they said: "Our enemy's enemy is our friend"; and because the two Communist powers (Russia and China) were enemies (or at least appeared to be) that our friendship with China would be a counterbalance against Soviet power. But a few skeptics asked the question, "What if the Sino-Soviet split is not real?" or "What if Russia and China reunite as allies?" The latter question has now been answered. Since 1989, Russia and China have been moving closer and closer together, have been rapidly increasing economic ties, and Russia has been helping to arm China and upgrade and modernize the PLA. In 1989, the Chinese and Russians began to construct a new railroad between the two countries that will enable China to ship goods all over the "former" Soviet Union and in 1996 Russia and China began construction of oil and natural gas pipelines between Siberia and the Chinese coast. In recent months those ties have grown even stronger, with Chinese President Jiang Zemin visiting Boris Yeltsin in Russia and signing agreements which they called a "strategic cooperative partnership." Both Communist leaders [ED. NOTE: Yes, Yeltsin is a Communist, too!] agreed that their "strategic partnership" must strive to stop NATO expansion eastward and to jointly oppose the global power and influence of America. Russian and Chinese leaders have also been meeting with Iranian, Iraqi, Syrian, Indian and Belarusian leaders to forge a new alliance (or Axis) to oppose NATO and America. Since December, Russian newspapers have been cheering the new "strategic partnership," which the Chinese and Russian leaders say is designed to "stop American hegemony, power politics, and monopoly of international affairs." Part of the new agreements is to greatly reduce troop strength along Russia's and China's 4,000-mile common border, which will free up hundreds of thousands of Chinese troops to be moved to the Eastern provinces nearer to Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines and other Asian tiger countries, where the PRC wants to project its power. The second part of the agreement greatly expanded arms trade between Russian and China - a trade which increased 25% in 1996. [ED. NOTE: Russia and China signed a five-year military cooperation agreement in 1993 calling for substantial transfers of Russian weapons technology to China. The new agreements will increase this transfer even further.] China has cosmonauts training in Russia and has bought advanced SU-27 fighter planes along with the technology to start building them in China. Russian officials plan to sell China more submarines, destroyers, tanks, light armored vehicles and much more. In early '96, Russia and China secretly concluded an agreement to upgrade the Chinese air force. The delivery of 72 SU-27 fighter planes (Russia's premier supersonic warplane) was the beginning, bringing China's total SU-27 inventory to 120 warplanes. Russia has now agreed to transfer the SU-27 production technology to China for $2 billion. With its speed and in-flight refueling ability, the SU-27 Flanker dramatically extends the combat range of the Chinese Air Force. The fighter can be modified for aircraft carrier launch and is equal to America's USAF mainstay fighter - the F-16 Fighting Falcon (see chart). Within four years, Chinese aerospace production lines, enhanced with U.S. (i.e., McDonnell Douglas and Boeing) technology, will be turning out thousands of these planes. This is how it began in Japan in the 1930s. Once they get their technology and production ducks in a row (with U.S. and Russian assistance) the PLA (financed with mega-reserves from U.S. trade) will be able to turn out massive quantities of these and other weapons. Many will then be sold to the Islamic states and North Korea. The New Axis powers are arming for World War III, while our idiot leaders (like Neville Chamberlain) congratulate themselves over "peace in our day."
4. THE CHINESE-ISLAMIC MILITARY ARMS CONNECTION
For several decades, Russia (the "former" Soviet Union) has been arming and training the Islamic countries of Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, and even Kuwait. More recently Russia has entered into a strategic relationship with Iran. The Russians have also armed, financed and supported the PLO and various Middle Eastern-based terrorist groups for decades. But most people are surprised to learn that Communist China and North Korea are also in bed with these Islamic governments and terrorist groups - supplying them with arms, munitions, and training. What is emerging is a new trilateral alliance or Axis between Russia, China, and the radical Islamic states. Saudi Arabia (under the anti-American, anti-Israel, pro-Syrian, pro-Russian Price Abdalla) will eventually become part of the New Axis as well as Egypt, Sudan, Algeria and perhaps Turkey and Afghanistan. India may even be drawn in as well as Marxist-dominated South Africa. Since the late 1980s, China has joined Russia in becoming a major arms supplier to the Middle East powers. In 1989-'91, China sold $5 billion in weapons to Iran - including 72 F-7 fighter jets, 25 Sukhoi bombers, and 30 MiG 29s. Over the past seven years China has actively assisted Iran in developing nuclear power (selling it nuclear related equipment and technology) and nuclear weapons - which Iran now has. China is Iran's number one arms supplier - outpacing even Russia. China has also been selling nuclear technology and equipment, missile technology and chemical weapons to Iraq, Syria, Algeria, and Pakistan. In November, 1991, according to William Safire (writing in the New York Times (3/10/92) the Chinese secretly agreed to help the Syrians construct their own missiles locally. This included the supply of Chinese equipment needed to assemble the advanced weaponry. In early '92, even though the Chinese transfer of missile equipment and technology was known to the U.S. government, and violated international treaties which China had signed, the Bush Administration rewarded China by lifting a ban on the export of satellite parts and high-speed computers to China. On 2/8/96, the New York Times, in an article entitled, "Atomic Arms Parts Sold To Pakistan By China, U.S. Says," described how China had sold 5,000 specialized ring magnets for use in centrifuges that enrich uranium to produce fissionable material to the state-run nuclear weapons laboratory in Pakistan in 1995, and other sophisticated nuclear technology, missile components and technology and chemical weapons from China from 1991 forward. Chinese missile technicians have been regularly traveling to Pakistan to help set up a factory for nuclear capable missiles. The factory should be completed this year. China has also been selling nuclear capable M-11 ground-to-ground missiles to Pakistan. In spite of violating numerous treaties on non-proliferation of chemical, nuclear, and missile weapons, the Bush and Clinton Administrations have consistently run interference for the Chinese - blocking any Congressional sanctions against the PRC. The Washington Post (3/8/96) in an article entitled Chinese Firms Supply Iran With Gas Factories, U.S. Says," described how China had provided Iran over the past five years with several virtually complete factories for making powerful, deadly poison nerve gases, along with massive technology on how to produce increasingly toxic chemical nerve agents. Once again, the Clinton Administration refused to crack down on China, who has already signed the Chemical Weapons Convention. Of course, for Communists, treaties (as Lenin said) are "like pie crust - made to be broken." A recent report by the Office of Naval Intelligence says China has been actively marketing anti-ship cruise missiles to the Middle East for two decades, but has dramatically increased these sales in the past two years - to countries such as Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Thailand and Burma. Some of these advanced C-802 cruise missiles will eventually be fired at U.S. naval warships patrolling the Persian Gulf. [ED. NOTE: It should be remembered that when countries like China, the Islamic powers, or Russia initiate huge arms buildups (way out of all proportion to national defense needs), like Germany and Japan of the 1930s, they are preparing for war.]
5. THE CHINESE NAVAL BEACHHEAD IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA
Undoubtedly the most bizarre, brazen development in U.S.-China relations is the attempt by the Clinton Administration to allow the Chinese government-owned, People's Liberation Army-controlled China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) to lease the U.S. Naval Station at Long Beach, California. COSCO, the world's fourth largest shipping company, with 600 ships, is actually the merchant marine for the Chinese Communist government. COSCO is directly under the Chinese Ministry of Communications, which falls under the State Counsel, which in turn is led by Communist Party Politburo member and Premier, Li Peng. U.S. intelligence authorities know, however, that COSCO is really controlled by and is an arm of the People's Liberation Army. In spite of COSCO's control by the People's Liberation Army, its use by the PLA for espionage and arms smuggling, and the incredibly sensitive strategic location of the Long Beach Naval Base in the heart of the Los Angeles metro area, surrounded by strategic defense plants and a cluster of U.S. Navy bases, Bill Clinton circumvented all national security review and clearance to try to install his Chinese Communist friends into this critical strategic location. One wonders how much the Chinese are really paying Clinton under the table to betray his country. His list of impeachable, treasonous, jailable offenses continues to grow as fast as Jack's fabled beanstalk. Clinton made two trips to California to personally intervene and facilitate the deal, working closely with some of the key Chinese figures who set up the secret fund to get Clinton re-elected in the illegal campaign contributions scandal. As Pat Buchanan wrote in a 3/17/97 syndicated column entitled: Chinese Naval Base Lobbyist-In-Chief: "Does anyone care about national security any more? Until last week, the heart of the historic U.S. Naval Base at Long Beach was about to be leased to a shipping company, COSCO, that is a virtual subsidiary of the Chinese Communist Army." [ED. NOTE: Because of widespread protests (even in Congress) about our leasing the base to the Communists, the lease has been put on hold for the moment.] "In 1995, a COSCO ship, the Empress Phoenix, was boarded by U.S. Customs agents, who seized a cargo of 2,000 fully automatic AK-47 assault rifles - destined for Los Angeles street gangs. And who was the chief lobbyist for handing over the historical naval base to China? None other than the president of the United States. Mr. Clinton held two meetings, one in the White House with Chief of Staff Leon Panetta and a deputy secretary of defense, to press Long Beach to make the deal. Mr. Clinton's National Security Council was not even asked for comment on whether giving China a base on the U.S. west coast might compromise national security." [ED. NOTE: Incredible! Only a year or so ago China, while blockading the Taiwan Strait, threatened to nuke Los Angeles and Bill Clinton is now trying to give them a naval base in the heart of metro L.A. Is this appeasement, is it gross stupidity, or is it high treason?] Buchanan continued: "What a sweetheart of a deal this is for Beijing. First, the U.S. Navy gave the historic base, free, to the city of Long Beach. To persuade China to take it off their hands, the city port is building a $200 million dock for container ships to bring Chinese goods into the United States. "And what will the Chinese be shipping in, besides toys? Consider: not only was COSCO implicated in smuggling assault rifles into the United States, but federal officials say COSCO ships are subjects of frequent surveillance and have brought in `all kinds of contraband.' "According to the March issue of the American Spectator, those 2,000 assault weapons on the Empress Phoenix were the first of many shipments a Chinese gun-running firm, Polytechnology, had in mind for us. "`Court documents reveal that Poly had hoped to expand their business even further, they were planning to move beyond assault rifles to Chinese-made hand grenades, mortars, RPG-7 anti-tank rockets and hand-held anti-aircraft missiles (Chinese copies of the Stinger) capable of knocking commercial airliners out of the sky.' "Sell RPGs and surface-to-air missiles to the Crips and Bloods, and the next L.A. gang war could be very exciting, especially at LAX. [ED. NOTE: Los Angeles International Airport] "What's happened to America? Can one imagine the reaction if Ronald Reagan learned that Fidel Castro was smuggling assault rifles to U.S. street criminals? "If our leaders are indifferent to national security, what about national self-respect? Within weeks of that incident with the COSCO ship, the Chinese president of Poly was having coffee with Mr. Clinton in the White House." Buchanan concluded by pointing out that Republicans are involved in the Chinese corruption, bribes, etc. as well as Democrats. "The establishments of both parties have been deeply corrupted by corporate contributions and the China trade." [ED. NOTE: One of those Republicans deeply involved with the People's Liberation Army, a paid advisor to COSCO, is former Secretary of State Alexander Haig. In effect, Haig, who consistently lobbies Congress for favorable treatment for China (as a paid member of COSCO's board of advisors), is a paid agent of the PLA who has illegally failed to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.] Closed down by Clinton military cutbacks, the U.S. Naval Station at Long Beach was given by the Navy (which had poured $150 million in improvements into the base over the past 10 years) free of charge to the city of Long Beach. The city says it's worth $65 million; environmentalists say it's worth $300 million. The city of Long Beach, pressured by Clinton (who says COSCO was "an attractive tenant") agreed to pay $200 million for improvements (i.e., the building of a 145-acre cargo terminal) and to lease the base in the heart of the Port of Long Beach to COSCO (i.e., the Chinese government) for $14.5 million per year. The base is to become COSCO's major shipping hub on the West Coast. SECURITY IMPLICATIONS OF THE COSCO LONG BEACH NAVAL BASE - Richard Fisher, an Asia expert at the Heritage Foundation, noting Long Beach's defense-rich environment, recently said in the Washington Times (3/13/97): "I am astonished that we would be providing COSCO, a known tool of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, a beachhead anywhere in California, but especially Long Beach. "I can't even begin to imagine the degree or amount of under-the-water, on-top-of-the-water and land-based surveillance that would be needed to ensure that COSCO did not use this port for intelligence gathering, insertion or recovery of agents or other forms of espionage." Giving the Red Chinese military a naval base in the heart of the Los Angeles/Long Beach metro area, which is loaded with defense plants, military bases, and hundreds of high tech companies, would open the floodgates for Chinese Communist espionage, for smuggling spies and electronic spying equipment into America, for close monitoring of all our naval activity (i.e., Southern California is the center of the lions-share of U.S. naval activity), for smuggling of arms and weapons into the U.S. [ED. NOTE: They've already been caught doing that!] and in time of war or confrontation (like the Taiwan Strait crisis last year), for sabotage. [ED. NOTE: The potential for smuggling arms into the U.S. in large, sealed cargo containers is horrendous. On March 15, U.S. border agents seized two truckloads of arms headed for Mexico City - which had been shipped from an "undisclosed" Asian country (probably China) in two large sealed containers through the Port of Long Beach. The arms seizure, one of the largest ever in the U.S., was made at a warehouse near a border crossing near San Diego. Four more large truckloads of weapons (part of the same shipment) were believed by Customs agents to have already slipped through. A U.S. Customs official said in the Orange County Register (3/15/97): "Ships are subject to random searches and shippers must submit documents listing ship and container contents. But there are thousands of containers which come into the ports each month. We cannot inspect each and every container - we have to accept what is on the documents as a true representation of what is in that cargo."[ED. NOTE: Probably less than 5% of such containers are searched upon entry into the U.S.] A year ago, the smuggled shipment of 2,000 Chinese-made automatic assault rifles was intercepted in the San Francisco Bay area. They were imported from China by two PLA-controlled arms exporting companies (destined for California street gangs) in a sealed container (20'x8'x8') on a COSCO ship. The question is, how many other containers with Chinese, or Russian or Islamic arms have gotten through to U.S. street gangs or terrorists? What would keep the New Axis powers described above from shipping (smuggling) ground-to-air (SAM) missiles[ED. NOTE: Like the one that probably shot down TWA 800 in the summer of '96], nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons, etc. into America in these containers and using them against us in a time of crisis? Nothing! Next door to the Naval Base, there is presently underway the construction of a very high tech facility called Sea Launch, which will launch satellites via rocket from a 430-foot converted oil rig in the Pacific. Sea Launch has very sophisticated equipment including advanced hardware to effectively load rocket components on ships. If COSCO were at the Long Beach Naval Station, right next door, it would be in a perfect spot to spy on Sea Launch for Chinese naval intelligence. In the 1950s, a four-day warning or restriction was imposed on ships from Communist countries entering a dozen highly strategic U.S. ports (many of which are right alongside U.S. Naval facilities). This advance notice, before Communist ships (many of which carry electronic spying equipment) could pull up and berth next to U.S. naval vessels or in sensitive areas, was to insulate us from espionage. Bill Clinton has now waived that restriction, giving China (and COSCO) special docking privileges near U.S. military installations, with just a day's notice to U.S. authorities. Senator John Kyl (R-AZ) calls the COSCO in Long Beach gambit "a huge PLA operation that will greatly enhance the activities of the Chinese military and intelligence services to penetrate this country and work against its interests." U.S. intelligence experts know that COSCO is at the direct disposal of the People's Liberation Army, or the main espionage organ, the Ministry of State Security (MSS). China's MSS and other intelligence services aggressively target the U.S., placing particular emphasis on the high tech sector heavily concentrated in Southern California, and in the Silicon Valley. As Richard Fisher of the Heritage Foundation wrote in the Washington Times (4/3/97), the leasing of the Long Beach Naval base to COSCO "gives China the option to use Long Beach as a covert base of operations that could pose serious security risks for America... "Another potential area of concern relates to COSCO's relationship to the PLA. It is common knowledge that the PLA regularly transports weapons it sells on COSCO ships. Occasionally, Chinese merchant ships figure in PLA amphibious assault exercises. For example, one was used last year to fire rocket artillery as part of a miliary display intended to intimidate Taiwan. During the Vietnam War, U.S. pilots bombing North Vietnamese ports would notice anti-aircraft fire coming from Chinese merchant ships. "Do we really want a subsidiary of the People's Republic of China - a future superpower - to have such a large presence at a port on our own coast, one of only two West Coast ports with a dry dock large enough to repair our aircraft carriers? "Long Beach city officials would like opponents of the COSCO deal to butt out of their local business. But increasing trade with China should not be pursued at the expense of U.S. security." Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) who has introduced legislation in Congress to permanently block the Chinese from leasing the Long Beach Naval Base, has said, "the COSCO lease would be a Communist Chinese beachhead that could be used for arms smuggling. My legislation will prevent that beachhead." [ED. NOTE: MIA readers should contact their congressmen and strongly urge them to support Hunter's legislation!]
6. THE CHINESE COMMUNIST THREAT TO THE PANAMA CANAL
The Panama Canal is one of the most critical of over a dozen strategic naval choke points in the world (i.e., the Panama Canal, the Suez Canal, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Cape of Good Hope, the English Channel, the Strait of Hormuz [exit to the Persian Gulf], the Taiwan Strait, the South China Sea, Cape Horn, etc.) It has long been part of Soviet naval doctrine that in time of war, if they could control or dominate a number of these maritime chokepoints, that they could restrict the movement of U.S. (and Western) commercial and naval shipping and quickly shift the balance of military power in their favor. The most critical of these naval chokepoints for America is the Panama Canal. America does not really have a two-ocean navy, especially with the downsizing of recent years from 550 to 350 ships. So, the ability to rapidly move our navy, our armed forces and supplies (not to mention commercial shipping) between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans - through the Panama Canal - is vital. This is why individuals who understand global geo-politics and Soviet naval doctrine so vehemently opposed the giveaway of the U.S. Canal in Panama by Jimmy Carter and the Liberal Eastern Establishment in 1977 - to be a fait accompli in 1999 (in just two years). Now comes word that a Hong Kong conglomerate with close ties to the Chinese Communist government, the PLA, and COSCO has gained control of both ends of the Panama Canal. The Panamanian government has given a 25-year lease to Hutchison Port Holdings (an arm of Hutchison Whompoa, Ltd.) to operate the ports that anchor the Canal on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Hutchison and COSCO are leaders in the global shipping industry, and have partnered on several large projects in China and other parts of Asia. Members of Hutchison's board of directors consult for COSCO, which is controlled by the Red Chinese government and the PLA. Beginning in March of this year, Hutchison began to pay $22.2 million a year to operate the Panamanian ports of Balboa on the Pacific and Cristobal on the Atlantic. As modern ships increase in size and outgrow the canal, Balboa and Cristobal will offer the shortest land route between the two oceans (Hutchison also an option to run a third port on the Pacific side). This incredible development positions Red China to dominate the Panama Canal from both the Atlantic and Pacific sides, and in time of war, to block U.S. (or other Western) transit through the canal. She would no doubt have help in that endeavor from her Russian Axis partner - which presently has a bigger navy than America's. As Insight magazine (4/21/97) wrote: "`What the hell are we doing?' asks Martin Anderson, former chief domestic adviser to President Reagan. `It's just fiction that these China companies are not run by the PLA.' "Anderson, a public-policy analyst at the Hoover Institution, says people are being duped into believing China is not a threat, noting that ships entering the Red Chinese base at Long Beach will be carrying thousands of containers that will make it nearly impossible for U.S. Customs Service agents to check. `If I were going to smuggle cocaine (or arms or any other kind of contraband), that's the way I would do it.' Anderson says. `U.S. Customs agents can't check every container every time. If they did, it would stop international trade.' "Jim Lucier adds that the Red Chinese presence at both ends of the Panama Canal and in Long Beach presents a serious military and economic danger that could threaten U.S. trade. `It is a national-security problem because it provides beachheads for penetration and control,' says the former GOP staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. `No one is going to know what is going to be in those thousands of containers on the ships entering the Long Beach base.' Lucier adds. `They could be smuggling in agents that could run intelligence operations in the U.S. This also positions the Chinese in the center of the drug trade. And Panama is also a big center for smuggling manufacturing goods like small televisions and household goods.'" Not surprisingly, President Clinton has said the PRC has every right to run these ports under the Panama Canal treaties, and that he and his advisors do not think China running both ends of the Panama Canal is a national security issue for America. [ED. NOTE: Bill Clinton is not stupid. It would seem that the President is smoking bad grass, or could he be a highly paid, loyal agent for the Communist Chinese government. He says he doesn't inhale when he uses drugs, so take your pick.]
C. HUMAN RIGHTS IN CHINA: HELL IN THE GULAG
To call Red China an abuser of human rights is the understatement of the millennium. To trade with and aid them as we are presently doing is the crime of the century. The Chinese Communist regime under Mao and then Deng Xiaoping has systematically massacred 50 to 60 to 80 million of its own people from 1949 until the present, according to Harry Wu and other Sinologists. They are the greatest mass murderers and destroyers of humanity in the history of the world - greater than Ghengis Khan; greater than Hitler; greater than the Russian Communists. During Mao's Great Leap Forward (starting in the late '50s) there was a massive man-made famine from 1958-'62 which, according to researchers, killed up to 30 million people. Mao and his successor, Deng, took mass executions, murders, torture, forced abortions, infanticide, and slave labor in the gulag (called the loagai) to the most horrendous heights in the history of mankind - and the bloodbath and human rights atrocities continue up until this day, in spite of the positive image Kissinger, Haig, Bush, Clinton, Scowcroft, Eagleburger and their Establishment comrades have tried to give the Communist regime and its leaders. When the greatest mass murderer and butcher in history, Communist Party Chairman Mao Tse-tung, died in 1976, he was eulogized by President Ford as "a very great man"; by Henry Kissinger as "one of the titans of his age"; by the Prime Minister of Sweden as "one of the greatest figures of history and humanity"; by the president of France as "a beacon of world thought"; by the president of Pakistan as "a giant among giants," etc., etc., ad nauseam. When Chairman Deng died in February of this year, he was similarly eulogized by our Establishment leaders from Kissinger to Bush, from Haig to Clinton. But it was Deng who was in charge of the rape and genocide of Tibet, which extinguished a whole culture; it was Deng who ordered the massacre of thousands of students at Tiananmen Square; it was Deng who ordered mass murders, terror, torture, imprisonment and slave labor of millions of Chinese from '76 to '97, even while portraying a moderate, fatherly, benign image in the West. So the lessons for students of history should be: don't cry for Mao or Deng and don't trust the Communist butchers (who haven't changed since the days of Mao) today. Even as Americans trade with and enrich the Communist dictatorship and grovel before their leaders for more business and profits, their military preparations, their terror, atrocities on their own people, and repression are all accelerating dramatically. The present Chinese leadership have taken population controls (via one child per family, forced abortion, infanticide - especially of baby girls - and even cannibalism); slave labor in the loagai; surveillance of its citizenry; beatings; torture; imprisonment; arbitrary executions; persecution of Christians and other religious groups; and other police state measures to new levels of cruelty, ruthlessness and depravity. And this is going on now - in the present (not just in the past) even as political and business leaders, and statesmen (like George Bush) praise them for their human rights gains.
1. THE CHINESE GULAG: THE ULTIMATE POLICE STATE
Do you remember the Rumanian orphanages - the pictures of starving, AIDS-infected kids? Those orphanages, at their very worst, had an estimated mortality rate of 40%. In certain Chinese provinces (Fujian, Shaanxi, Guangxi, and Henon) the mortality rate in orphanages ranges from 59.2% to 72.5% - a pediatric holocaust. Most of the children die from intentional neglect and starvation. As Richard Cohen recently wrote (11/27/96) in the Los Angeles Daily News: "The orphanages are just part of the problem. So, too, is coerced abortion and the capricious use of capital punishment - a single bullet to the back of the neck, with the victim's family billed for the bullet. So, too, is the persistence of a gulag, a prison system both vast and opaque in which torture is permitted and sentences are routinely extended so that production quotas can be met. In short, China is a police state - ruthless when it wants to be and quite often it wants to be." a) SLAVE LABOR - Harry Wu, who spent 19 years in the Chinese loagai (slave labor camps) says 50 million people have been sent to those camps since 1949 and that eight to ten million are imprisoned in that gulag (in 3,000 slave labor camps) at this time - making slave labor goods being consumed by free-spending Americans oblivious or indifferent to the plight of those poor souls. Wang Dan, for example, a one-time student leader at Tiananmen Square was given a four-year sentence. When he got out, he spoke out for democracy and reform and was thrown back in prison - this time for 11 years. To love or speak out for freedom, liberty or democracy in present day China is to be thrown into prison, a forced labor camp, or to be executed. b) POPULATION CONTROL - Every year, as part of China's strict one-child-per-family policy, there are over a million forced abortions (many as late as eight months), prematurely induced labor and tens (or hundreds) of thousands of children (mostly baby girls) killed by the Communist government in the most widespread infanticide in world history. It's called "population management" in Chinese Communist terms. Each year, according to a report by Human Rights Watch-Asia, hundreds of thousands of infants and children - abandoned by their parents - die through intentional starvation. And as if that were not enough, there is also cannibalism of aborted babies. In China, the consumption of aborted babies as a "health benefit" was reported in the Hong Kong Eastern Express, which published the findings of reporters from its sister magazine, Eastweek on 4/12/95. One of those admitting to this practice, according to the Orange County Register (6/13/95) in an article entitled: Add Cannibalism to China's List of Crimes is Dr. Zou Qin of the Luo Hu Clinic, who claims to have eaten about 100 bodies of aborted babies in a six-month period. She told reporters: "They are wasted if we don't eat them. I wash them with clear water until they look transparent white, and then stew them. Making soup is best." As Harry Wu says, "Human life has no value in China today." c) HARVESTING HUMAN BODY PARTS - Harry Wu and other Chinese dissidents have described the gruesome Chinese business of harvesting human body parts and selling them on the world organ transplant market. Wu described in a documentary made for the British Broadcasting Corp. how China executes enough political prisoners each year to meet the market demand for various organs. "This is little different than the practice of the Nazis," Wu said. The Orange County Register (8/29/94) carried a sobering article entitled: China Said To Take Live Inmates' Organs - Executions Match Transplant Needs, A Rights Group Says. "Executed prisoners are the source of most organ transplants in China, and the donors sometimes are still alive when their organs are removed, a human rights group says. Execution appears to be scheduled according to transplant needs, Human Rights Watch-Asia said in a report schedule for release today. It said prisoners' consent is rarely sought or is coerced in the last few hours before death. "In some cases, kidneys have been removed from prisoners the night before their executions, and some executions have been deliberately botched to keep the bodies alive longer and improve chances of organ-transplant success, the rights group said. The number of executions in China is a state secret. But Human Rights Watch-Asia said `tens of thousands' of people have been put to death since 1983, when the number of death sentences began to grow under a series of political crackdown. "The group cited government documents, medical-journal articles and statements by doctors and others as evidence that executed prisoners are the source of most organs used in transplants in China. Human Rights Watch-Asia said Chinese trials often are unfair - including coerced confessions and the growing use of torture in the 1980s - leading to a high risk that innocent people are executed and become organ donors. Executions in China usually involve a bullet to the back of the head. "An estimated 1,400 to 1,700 kidneys from executed prisoners were used in transplant operations in 1992, and the number probably has increased since then, the rights group said."
d) CRACKING DOWN ON ALL FORMS OF DISSENT
In 1989, at Tiananmen Square, Deng and the Chinese Communist leaders decided to stamp out the rising democracy/human rights/freedom movement the old- fashioned (Mao/Stalinist) way - by massacres, terror, mass arrests, imprisonment, and executions. This accelerated again in 1995, and today almost all forms of dissent and expression of desire for freedom have been silenced in this ultimate police state. Freedom of speech is non-existent. In 1989, the Communist authorities began monitoring fax machines and fax communications. A person can be jailed for having a fax machine in his home or if a pro-democracy message is sent or received on his fax. In 1996, the government began to crack down on the Internet and its uses. It has blocked 100 Internet sites and attempted to force all users of Internet and other international computer networks to register with the police. Those caught using the Net without registering (so they can be closely monitored) will be imprisoned or executed for violation of state security laws. The Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Post Telecommunications are the enforcer/monitors of this Internet censorship. e) THE TOTAL SURVEILLANCE SOCIETY - As in George Orwell's 1984 (and increasingly in America) the Chinese people are watched, monitored, and kept under surveillance from the day of birth to the grave. As part of China's complex system of social control and surveillance, the authorities keep a dangon, or file, on virtually everyone except peasants. Indeed most Chinese have two dangons: one at their workplace and another at their local police station. A file is opened on each urban citizen when he or she enters elementary school and it shadows the person throughout life, moving on to high school, college, and employer. About 10 major items are included in every file, including family members, photos, entry into the Communist Youth League and the Communist Party, attitudes in school, Party, work, and on the job, etc. [ED. NOTE: Ominously, the U.S. government is now compiling similar records on most adult citizens in dozens of different computer data bases, maintained by various agencies.] The dangon is part of the web of social/political controls that keep the government in control over the people. Other elements of the web include the personal identity card that each citizen must carry [ED. NOTE: Bill Clinton is pushing hard for such a card (but computerized) for each U.S. citizen.]; the residence permit that determines in what city a person can life; a the "work unit" which provides (and without which a citizen cannot have) lifetime employment, housing, political study, and permission to have a child. There are also block committees and Communist Party spies on each block to monitor the comings and goings of each person. As in George Orwell's 1984, every person is watched virtually all the time. It is incredible that the Chinese Communists, who have presided over a poor, developing country, can maintain hundreds of millions of secret files on its urban population. But intense surveillance, abolition of all privacy, and total control of the people are essential elements of any totalitarian regime - unfortunately elements which are beginning to be pushed in America by Bill Clinton and his socialist comrades. f) POLICE BRUTALITY - Arbitrary arrests, beatings, torture, and imprisonment are the norm in the Chinese police state. In a 7/29/88 New York Times article entitled Beijing Acknowledges Serious Police Abuse, it was described how Chinese police had illegally detained more than 30,000 people in 1988. The English language China Daily said there were 202 cases of police having raped, beaten to death or seriously abused prisoners and that over a quarter of a million people had been so treated from 1980-88. In the decade which followed (up until the present) these incidents have dramatically increased. It should be understood that in a police state, instilling fear in the masses is an essential element in keeping them under control. Police brutality, arbitrary arrests, the midnight knock on the door, beatings, torture, long prison detentions and executions are all calculated ways of instilling fear in the Chinese masses and keeping them under control. Terror is a major element of all Communist regimes.
2. THE RAPE OF TIBET
In 1949, the Chinese Communists occupied Tibet, and began the systematic rape of that tiny, peaceful Buddhist country - ultimately killing millions of its citizens. That rape of Tibet was led by Deng Xiaoping (who later succeeded Mao) and was so ruthless in crushing the Tibetan population and religion, that even his boss, Mao Tse-tung, asked him to ease off. He did not! Since Tibet was invaded by China in 1949, China has effectively outlawed freedom of speech, assembly, and religion. Authorities continue to crack down on Tibetans who question Chinese rule, relying on imprisonment, torture, and executions in an attempt to eradicate the Tibetan religion, culture and nationality. The Tibetan government, exiled to India, is the only organization to keep detailed records of such deaths. According to its records, 1.2 million Tibetans died between 1949 and 1979 as a result of the Chinese occupation. The statistics show:
An excellent article in the Denver Post (1/17/97) entitled China Rubbing Out All Things Tibetan described the Chinese rape and genocide in Tibet: Each time the cattle prod stung her back with an electric current, Lobsang Choedon said she could feel her skin `sizzle.' Then came electric shocks to her face, mouth and arms. Choedon was 16, a Buddhist nun, and she was being punished for a tiny act of defiance against the Chinese Communist government. On Feb. 3, 1992, Choedon, in her burgundy robes, walked to the Jokhang, Tibet's most sacred temple, with five other young nuns. There they prayed. There they chanted these words: "Long live His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Independence for Tibet, Peace to the world." Within minutes, Choedon was arrested. She said police threw her in a van, then beat her and kicked her with metal-toed boots. When she arrived at the jail, she said, police shocked her face, mouth and arms repeatedly with a 7,000-volt cattle prod. She was sentenced without trial and served three years in prison. Three other nuns imprisoned with her also were tortured repeatedly, she said. They were not as fortunate as Chiedon. They died after their torture - at ages 18, 19 and 24. In Tibet, a land occupied by China since 1949, torture and intimidation are facts of life for Tibetans caught up in a Chinese campaign to eradicate Tibet's religion, nationality and culture. In hundreds of interviews over the last two years, Tibetans have said Chinese police routinely arrest, jail and torture people who question Chinese authority, even in the most mundane ways. Sherab Ngawang, Phuntsok Yangkyi and Gyaltsen Kelsang died in the last two years the way no young women should: worn down inside Chinese prisons in Tibet, where they had been beaten with sticks, kicked with boots, and shocked with electric cattle prods. It was a few simple words that doomed them. At a February 3, 1992, rally to protest the Chinese occupation of their country, Ngawang, 15, and Yangkyi, 17, chanted slogans: "Independence for Tibet," "May peace prevail on Earth," and "Long live the Dalai Lama." The police closed in quickly. While in prison, each of the three young Tibetan Buddhist nuns was tortured repeatedly, according to former prisoners interviewed in India this year. All three died within a year of one another. Ngawang was 18 when she died in May 1995; Yangkyi, 19, in June 1994; Kelsang, 24, in February 1995. Their names were added to the list of 173,221 Tibetans who have died after being tortured in Chinese prisons in Tibet, between 1949 and 1979, according to the exiled Tibetan government. Tibetans interviewed in India, Nepal and Tibet said Chinese police and prison guards beat prisoners with chains, metal rods and wooden sticks spiked with nails - usually while the victims are shackled or hanging from a ceiling. The most common instrument of torture, the Tibetans said, is the electric cattle prod, used in most countries to herd cows weighing up to 1,200 pounds. The police ram the prods into prisoners' mouths, rectums and vaginas, according to Tibetans who have been imprisoned. Their accounts have been verified by medical examinations and polygraph tests. The former prisoners also report that police have held them in water while shocking them, branded their flesh with hot irons, kicked and beat them while they were on the ground, ordered trained dogs to attack and bite them, and locked them in concrete "coffins" for days or months at a time. Nearly all Tibetans arrested for political reasons are tortured, according to interviews with hundreds of Tibetans, most of whom had been in prison. In 1995, China sold $46.5 billion in goods to the United States. Some of China's profits from exports to America are used, indirectly, to fund China's military and police activities in Tibet - including its suppression of Tibetans. And Tibetans say China has embarked on a new phase of intimidation, intended to eliminate the Buddhist religion and culture that has defined Tibet for centuries - and to extinguish all hopes of Tibetan independence. "The Chinese are practicing cultural genocide in Tibet," the Dalai Lama said in an interview in Dharmsala, India. Visits to Tibet and interviews with Tibetans show that Chinese oppression has intensified in several ways in recent years. Tibetans are at times arrested for no stated reason, taken from their homes or places of work by Chinese police. Throughout Tibet, hundreds of Tibetan teachers and students have been arrested, jailed and tortured by the Chinese because their views are considered `counterrevolutionary.' It is common for the Chinese authorities who rule Tibet to arrest and torture those who take such nonviolent actions as singing freedom songs or putting up posters urging independence for Tibet. In their attempts to eradicate Tibetan culture and religion, Tibetans say Chinese authorities have relied on a system of arbitrary arrest and torture. [ED. NOTE: The Chinese rape of Tibet did not just take place in the '50, '60s, and '70s. It is continuing right up through this moment. In April '96, China launched its "Operation Strike Hard" campaign in Tibet, which led to tens of thousands of arbitrary arrests and thousands of summary executions. There has also been increased repression of religious activities. The rape goes on!] In recent years, the Chinese have intensified efforts at "re-education" by sending large contingents of Chinese soldiers into monasteries to interrogate monks and nuns individually about their allegiance to the Dalai Lama. These interrogations are called "examinations." Those who refuse to renounce the Dalai Lama - which would be similar to a Christian denying Jesus Christ - are not allowed to remain in the monasteries. Some are jailed and tortured, Tibetans say. Thousands of Tibetans, imprisoned without due process, face torture, rape, and death. Like the Dalai Lama, more than 130,000 Tibetans have fled Tibet. Most leave illegally by taking a dangerous, two-week trek through the Himalayan mountains, where the frozen bodies of other Tibetans who have attempted to escape are sometimes found embedded in ice along the trail, according to Tibetans who have made the journey. China's present grip on Tibet is so tight that Lhasa, as well as much of the countryside, is patrolled by hundreds of thousands of Chinese soldiers and police. Undercover agents - posing as bicyclists, tourists, monks, businessmen - spy on Tibetans and visitors. The Chinese have paid some Tibetans to help spy and torture their countrymen. [End of Denver Post article.]
3. THE PERSECUTION OF CHRISTIANS
"This has been a century of unmatched Christian martyrdom. It began with the mass murder of Christians in Armenia, it is ending with the mass murder of Christians in Sudan. But the most potent source of anti-Christian persecution has been and continues to be Communism." - Jeff Jacoby, Boston Globe The Buddhists are not the only religious group being persecuted, imprisoned, tortured, and executed in China today. The Chinese Communists who hate and are paranoid about all religions - including Christianity - are deeply concerned that there is a moral vacuum caused by the collapse in the credibility of Communism, and that many people are turning to religion for answers. The government now wants all religious groups (including all Christians) to register, and those who don't have seen their houses of worship bulldozed. Chinese Christians say that 1996 was the worst year for persecution for them since the end of the Mao period in 1976. In China proper (not Tibet) the brunt of religious persecution is directed toward the underground Christian church (both Protestant and Catholic). Estimates of its size range from 70 to 90 million - Communist Party membership is about 53 million. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security is the main instrument of Chinese government persecution of Christians. It tries to funnel all Christians into its two official churches: the Three Self Patriotic Movement (Protestant) and the Catholic Patriotic Association. Both were created by Mao Tse-tung's regime in the 1950s in order to facilitate Communist Party control over religious affairs and are run by atheists. There are 15 million "registered" Christians in the two Communist-run churches but the phenomenal growth is in the "underground church" - especially among young Chinese (a fact that causes high anxiety among the Communist leadership). More Christians (primarily from the underground church) are in jail in China than in any other country in the world, and both Protestant and Catholic Christians in this group are now experiencing the worst persecution since the late 1970s. Hundreds of underground churches have been closed in the past year and dozens of pastors and priests jailed, beaten, and tortured. Red China's 1982 constitution dictates that "no one may make use of religion to engage in activities that disrupt public order...or interfere with the educational system of the state" - both of which, of course, the Communists accuse Christians of doing. "Activities which disrupt public order" are interpreted by the Communists to include virtually all public worship. The constitution also states that "religious bodies and religious affairs are not subject to any foreign domination," which includes contact with foreign Christians, churches or religious groups, or missionaries. "Foreign domination" can be interpreted as allegiance to anything but the Communist Party - the same reasoning the Roman Caesars used for persecuting and killing Christians who gave a higher allegiance to Christ than to the 'divine" Caesar. [ED. NOTE: It is conceivable that, just as in Rome, where it was Christianity (not resistance movements or foreign armies) which ultimately toppled the Roman Empire, that one day Christianity may topple the Red Chinese empire. The Chinese Communists know this (as the Roman Caesars innately did as well) and that is why they hate and fear Christians.] On 1/31/94, the Chinese government issued Decrees 144 and 145 which put new restrictions on Christians. The two decrees forbade foreigners from, conducting religious activities, engaging in missionary work, or establishing religious organizations in China. The new restrictions forbid contact with any foreign Christians, including Christians from Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, visiting relatives or doing business on the mainland, and condemn Chinese Christians who have such contacts with co-religionists from other countries as "subversive." To be "subversive" is to be an enemy of the state, subject to jail, beatings, torture, having your home seized, or execution.
A crackdown on the underground church followed these decrees in '94, '95, '96 and '97 - including attempts to register all non-approved religious bodies with government affairs bureaus and bring them under the supervision of the two "patriotic" religious groups. Each religious activity must be pre-registered and approved. For unregistered Christian groups, no assembly of religious activities is tolerated, no church buildings may be built, and no offerings (or donations) given or received. These regulations are, of course, totally ignored by millions of Chinese Christians in tens of thousands of underground churches (many or most of them meeting in homes). But they ignore the government controls at the risk of intimidation, fines, beatings, torture, long imprisonment, lack of medical treatment while in prison, or death - which has been the lot of tens of thousands of Chinese Christians in recent years - especially since 1994. As Jeff Jacoby wrote in the Boston Globe (1/19/97): "The officers stripped three brethren naked from the waist and forced the women to stand with them...The three men were beaten until they were totally covered with blood and had gaping wounds and injuries all over their bodies. "As if such violent beating wasn't enough, the officers then hung them up and began to hit them with rods on their backs. They did this until the three men were unconscious and barely breathing. Such was the treatment of three Protestants accused of `illegal' contacts with foreigners by agents of China's campaign to renew its `socialist spiritual civilization.'" [ED. NOTE: But the more the Christian church is persecuted in China (or Sudan, Africa, the "former" Soviet Union or in the Islamic countries) just as in the Roman Empire, the faster it grows.] In the fall of '96, the Chinese government (as part of its escalating anti-Christian campaign) began to "re-educate" its own PLA forces on the tenants of atheism and the evils of Christianity. As The People's Liberation Army Daily wrote: "It is necessary to conduct education in atheism so that the military believe in science and oppose superstition. Participation in religious activities is forbidden." Since then, the PLA has played a very active role in the crackdown on Christian activities and the underground church. In November '96 the Chinese government issued a "wanted list" of 4,000 Protestant pastors and a 15-page directive outlining an aggressive campaign to shut down the underground Catholic Church in China. The New American (3/17/97) in an article entitled For the Sake of Their Faith - Persecution Has Been the Lot of Red China's Underground Church, William Grigg wrote: "Because `underground religious activities are illegal and dangerous,' the directive maintains, `eradicating the illegal activities of the underground Catholic Church is a decisive and critical political work... In recent years, the population of religious believers in our villages has increased due to the intensified infiltration of overseas religious enemy and opposition forces, and due to the influence of the illegal activities of the underground religious force in our country.' Unregistered Catholics, the document continues, are `seriously disturbing the social order and affecting political stability.' Accordingly, Party officials have been ordered to `eradicate' the `underground Catholic Church.' "To carry out the final solution to the problem of underground Christian worshipers, party cadres are instructed to `use the strategy of Conversion Through Re-Education, Disintegration, Unification of the Majority and Attacking the Individuals.' Party units are ordered to organize a `spiritual civilization propaganda force' to be stationed and put to work in those villages where the underground church has the most influence.' In addition, Communist officials are ordered to recruit a new generation of Red Guards, `a reserve force of zealous young people for the Party's undertaking.' "Working with police and security officials, Party members are ordered to collect `stubborn hard core members' of the underground church for prosecution, while the remainder `will be indoctrinated by education.' This approach is described as `uniting the majority through education' while `isolating and attacking the extremists.' "Ominously, Communist Party cadres are exhorted to use `any conceivable means' to `break up the underground religious influence' in their communities. In practice, this means that Christians who refuse to renounce the Church can be imprisoned, expelled from school, thrown out of work, have their houses destroyed, and be beaten or maybe even killed. "The document sketches out a five-stage campaign - `Propaganda and Initiative Stage,' `Investigation Stage,' `Education and Transformation Stage,' `Legal Control Stage,' and `Conclusion and Consolidation Stage' - which will end in June of this year with the creation of a `permanent religious surveillance group' in each village. "Compounding the tragedy of China's persecuted Christians is the fact that their persecutors are making use of American surveillance technology." [ED. NOTE: U.S. companies are selling the PLA the communications and surveillance equipment and computers which will enable the government to better monitor and control these Christians. The next time you see Bill Clinton or Al Gore cavorting with their Chinese Communist "comrades" in the White House or in China, or you see George Bush, Henry Kissinger, Al Haig, Bob Dole or Newt Gingrich running interference for the Chi Coms, or pushing Most-Favored-Nation trade status for the Chinese butchers, remember the people of Tibet and the persecuted Christians in China! The next time you are tempted to buy an item made in China (it's hard not to) in order to save a few bucks, remember the people of Tibet and the persecuted Christians in China and just say no!]
CONCLUSION
What should be our response to the information discussed above in this issue of MIA: fear, depression, "I don't want to think about it - it's too horrible."? No, it should be hatred for the evil which this giant Communist Chinese empire is perpetrating on its own people; concern for the danger which the new Chinese Communist colossus poses for the peoples of Southeast Asia and ultimately for America; and anger and disgust at the greed and whoredom of our financial and political leaders (from the President and Vice President on down) who will do anything for a profit - even while the wicked regime they have chose to help is crushing human rights and freedom on a scale unprecedented in human history, and will over the next five to ten years threaten our own national security. Nowhere is the moral/political bankruptcy of the Clinton administration more evident than in its financial dealings and collaboration with, and buildup of Red China and its military. For some time, knowledgeable Americans have believed that we have a criminal in the White House. Now they are beginning to ask if we have a President who is also a traitor - a paid agent of influence of a hostile foreign power or enemy! "But what about all the profits we can make from trade with China," the pro-China U.S. business and political lobby argues. "And we will woo the Communists away from their wicked ways with profits and capitalism. We will convert them into capitalists just like us." Harry Wu's response to those arguments is: "Capitalism must never be equated with democracy. This is a very American belief - that making money produces freedom and justice and equality. Don't believe it about China. My homeland is mired in thousands of years of rule by one bully at a time, whether you call him emperor or chairman. Don't be fooled by electronics or air conditioning. There is no freedom in this Communist police state and there will not be as long as the West keeps strengthening my people's slave masters." The U.S. Establishment (political and business), while enriching itself off of the U.S.-China trade and high technology transfers (just as they did to Saddam Hussein in the latter half of the 1980s), is greatly endangering U.S. national security and setting the stage for World War III - which America will have to fight against the New Axis (China, Russia, and Islam) powers within five, ten to 15 years. In addition to strengthening our enemy and weakening our own country, Clinton, Gore, Kissinger, Haig, Bush, Gingrich, Dole and Company are teaming up with the Chinese Communists to corrupt our political process in America, are undermining respect for our government here and abroad, and are accelerating the moral decline of this once great country. It is a measure of the moral and spiritual free-fall of this country that our political and business leaders will get in bed with the most evil, wicked, ruthless, murderous government in world history (a regime that makes Hitler and his Third Reich look like choir boys) all for the sake of financially enriching themselves. The purpose of America is not merely to have the best economic deal possible. Being a world leader means more than having more things than anyone else. There are moral/spiritual principles as well: right versus wrong, good versus evil, freedom versus slavery. We became a great world power and leader over 200 years by staunchly advocating those principles - by being willing to fight and die for those principles at home and abroad. If America is to now abandon those principles and the people all over the world who yearn for freedom and look to America for leadership, as their last great hope, then we will cease to be a world power and leader, we will become very much like our worst enemies, we will decline and fall like the Roman Empire, and the 21st Century may see a descent into a giant black hole - the New Dark Ages.
WHAT TO DO
1. WRITE to your congressmen and senator now (or fax, or phone, or do all three) and strongly urge them not to renew China's Most Favored Nation trade status. The vote is scheduled for June.
2. WRITE to your congressmen and urge them to support Rep. Duncan Hunter's (R-CA) legislation banning the lease of the Long Beach Naval Station to the Communist Chinese.
3. SUPPORT Congressional efforts for the impeachment of Bill Clinton and Al Gore, on the grounds of violation of many U.S. laws, recklessly endangering U.S. national security, and massive involvement in the Red Chinese bribery/influence buying/illegal campaign contributions scandal.
4. BOYCOTT ALL GOODS MADE IN RED CHINA. Look at labels in stores and refuse to buy these goods even if you have to pay more for equivalent American-made goods. It's more than just a matter of principle. When you buy Red Chinese goods you are strengthening our enemy; helping that Communist government to keep a hammerlock on its 1.2 billion subjects; enriching the People's Liberation Army; helping the Chinese dictators in their persecution of Chinese Christians and the rape of Tibet; and moving America and the world rapidly toward World War III. In hindsight, would you have bought from or traded with the Japanese or Germans in the 1930s? No! Then don't buy from the Chinese Communists today.
5. BOYCOTT the products (as much as possible) of the corporate whores doing the most business with Red China. This is difficult, because hundreds of our largest Fortune 500 companies are involved. But as much as possible, try to buy products from All-American companies.
6. PRAY for the persecuted Christians and underground church in China and get involved with and help fund organizations who are helping to smuggle Bibles into China and other persecuted areas of the world. A few such organizations include:
a) VOICE OF THE MARTYRS, P.O. Box 443, Bartlesville, OK 74005, (918)337-8015.
b) FRONT LINE FELLOWSHIP, P.O. Box 74, NEWLANDS 7725 Cape, South Africa.
c) OPEN DOORS WITH BROTHER ANDREW, P.O. BOX 27001, Santa Ana, CA 92799, (714)531-6000.

[FINAL NOTE: The good news is that there is a rapidly growing opposition in Congress and across grassroots America to our insane trade with, high tech transfers to, and buildup of Red China and its military (including the giving of a California naval base to COSCO). There is growing determination in Congress to help the persecuted Christians of China and Buddhists of Tibet. MIA readers are strongly encouraged to get involved in this opposition.
A.M. Rosenthal, writing in an article in the New York Times (4/4/97) entitled The Chinese Christians suggests an end to U.S. investments in China (like we did to our former ally, South Africa): "One approach is to use the tariff weapon, specifically against imports from China's largest exporter and beneficiary of forced labor - its armed forces. The other is to withhold loans from the World Bank and the Export-Import Bank, and fight about tariffs next year."
Pat Buchanan suggested (3/26/97) in the Los Angeles Times: "A one-year suspension of MFN to China; no more U.S. loan guarantees to a Beijing flush with cash; imposition on Chinese goods of the same 35% tariff that China imposes on U.S. goods, and use of every dime of tariff revenue to cut taxes on small U.S. businesses, to offset losses by retailers." Even liberals like House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt (D-MO) are getting angry at the Red Chinese human rights abuses and Clinton giveaways and collaboration with these ruthless butchers and are beginning to come out in favor of non-renewal of MFN trade status. If Republican leaders Gingrich, Delay, Armey, and Lott support MFN, they should be removed from their GOP leadership positions. Let them hear from you - now!
1. SOUND MONEY INVESTORS CONFERENCE - Seattle, Washington, June 4-7, 1997. This very timely investment/financial/geo-political conference will include as speakers: R.E. McMaster, Otto Scott, William Donahue, Jack Anderson, Al Frank, Ken Coleman, William Conner and Don McAlvany. This writer will give in-depth discussions on the approaching political and economic upheaval in America and strategies for getting out of harm's way. Call Conference Director Karen Constantine at 1-800-342-0096 to register, and join us if you possibly can.
2. BUY GOLD COINS NOW! - "If not now then when; if not you, then who." Bill Clinton and his "plunge protection" market manipulators cannot prop up the stock market forever, nor can they hold gold down forever. Sooner or later they will lose control and America's greatest ever speculative bubble will burst. The trigger that will fire the "shot heard 'round the world" could be the Clinton scandals; a Middle East war and oil embargo; Islamic-based terrorism on U.S. soil; a crash of the dollar; a spike in U.S. interest rates and/or inflation; a retreat by foreign buyers of U.S. Treasury paper; or a dozen or so other "accidents." Already the U.S. financial markets are getting nervous. Large sophisticated investors know that the Clinton "plunge protection" market fixers cannot stop or stem a mass exodus from the U.S. stock market (or mutual funds). They are getting out now! In a theater fire, it is better to leave through the limited exits 10 or 20 minutes early than one minute late - when the bodies begin to pile up inside the exits. Gold is presently dull, quiet, and officially suppressed. It is also very cheap thanks to the "plunge protection team" and other "friends of Bill." But after the trigger or triggers go off, gold will no longer be cheap and the bodies will begin to pile up inside the stock market/mutual fund exits. It is time to aggressively buy U.S. gold coins ($20 double eagles) and to thank our beloved leader, Chairman Bill, for keeping the price down a little bit longer. 3. FINAL THOUGHT - The persecution of the Christians in China was discussed in the article above. It has been going on for 48 years in China and has intensified dramatically over the past few years, even as America has supported and built up that bloody regime and Americans have bought their products ($45 billion last year) and thereby strengthened the Communists' hold on their own people. But, China is not the only place where Christians are being persecuted today. In Islamic countries throughout the world, Christians are being beaten, jailed and executed. In Sudan, two-million Christians (blacks from Southern Sudan) have been slaughtered by that fundamentalists Moslem government since 1990, with almost no one in the world to weep for them or take up their cause, except a handful of dedicated missionaries. Another half million (or more) Christians have been slaughtered in Burundi and Rwanda in recent years. Over the past decade or so, over 1,000 Christians a day, on average, have been martyred somewhere in the world for the cause of Christ -- the greatest number of martyrs and greatest intensity of persecution since the first hundred years of the Christian church when Nero was feeding the Christians to the lions and using them for torches at his garden parties. The late Christian philosopher Francis Schaeffer said that we live in the "post-Christian era" in America and much of the world, and that widespread persecution of Christians would occur in America and around the world in coming decades. This writer has written several times over the past year about the growing hostility of secular America (i.e. the government, the courts, the media and entertainment industries, the education system) toward fundamental/evangelical Christians -- especially toward those who become politically active and support traditional, Biblical values such as the pro-life movement, those concerned about global government, etc. This hostility is likely to grow in coming years. The Christians in the underground church in China have actually been praying that persecution would come to the Christian church in America to wake it up and shake it out of its lethargy, apathy and complacency. As inconceivable as that is to most Americans and most American Christians today, this writer believes that is very possible over the next five to ten years. The Bible warns that Godly Christians can expect persecution. Psalm 119:86 says: "...help me, for men persecute me without cause." in Matthew 5:10-12, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said: "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way, they persecuted the prophets who came before you." In John 15:20 he said: "If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also." In Matthew 24, on the Mount of Olives, Jesus discussed the persecution and deception which would precede his return. Verses 4-13 say: "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my claiming, I am the Christ and will deceive many, You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All those are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time, many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." The present severe persecution of Christians in China, in the Islamic countries, in Sudan, Central Africa, etc., should be a wake-up call to American Christians. It could happen here under a government that rejects traditional, Biblical values, and supports great evils such as abortion, partial birth abortion, homosexuality, the Chinese Communist government, etc., It seems to this writer that it is time for American Christians to wake-up, to get really serious about their walk with the Lord, to begin to study the Bible, pray, and seek a much deeper, more intimate relationship with the Lord. We (the Christians of America) have become fat, dumb, lazy and complacent after 50 years of uninterrupted prosperity - but the good times may not (indeed will not) roll forever. At the very least, we should be praying daily for the persecuted Christians of China, Sudan, Central Africa and elsewhere. Incredibly, they are praying for us - that we will wake up and once again get serious about the Lord. Will we? And that is the bottom line!
